I am no fan of the Po-Po. I have actually been beat down by The Man.

But I understand the need for them and I will give them respect. At least to their faces. If you lay a hand on a police officer in a non-defensive move, you deserve whatever asswhippin' you are bound to get. Not because the cop is justified, but because you are stupid.

And quit crying about the punch to the face. If it was a male perp, this wouldn't have made the news. I got news for some of you as well, you would much rather take a shot to the chops from some sawed off runt than a face full of pepper spray or a taser. They are both much worse.

A punch to the nose is the original non-lethal method of subduing an attacker.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

Thanks, Counselor.  For the benefit of the jury, my post was made firmly as a tongue-in-cheek statement especially regarding the entertainment factor.

But...I do think that the officer should have used the taser...not just brandished it with a verbal command.

Now get the hell off of my lawn!

Ok, get the toungue in cheek thing.

As a matter of course, verbal commands come right before use of force.  It's a police thing.  Wasn't suggesting merely making a threat, but not following through.  Anyway...yeah, they should have been pepper sprayed and/or tasered IMHO.

Public canings would solve all of this shit. Until it was some black kid getting caned. Then we would hear all of the old tired slavery quotes.

Regardless of race, religion, or national origin, a lot of the crap the police have to put up with would diminish.

There was not much of an uproar when the white boy (Michael Fay) got caned in some Asian country (Singapore) a few years back.

I'm starting to understand you more and more.

Sometimes it takes a Sommelier to figure out my sense of humor.

On a serious note I do understand the protocols of the police use of force; I do have a very good friend who is a cop.  It's a tough job to be sure.  My Grandfather and Uncle were both Sheriff's Deputies but in their day the use of force involved a revolver, a truncheon, and fists in the part of North Carolina where I'm from originally anyway.

Put corporal punishment back in schools, too. Then we would see a country that would excel in education. We have allowed liberalism to spoil the child. Hell we have spoiled a whole segment of society with it.

When we were growing up, we never would have dreamed of putting a hand on a cop and walking away. We were taught to respect the law and the law was given the leeway to make a few judgment calls. Then lawyers got involved and cops lost the leeway and the respect. They just became tools of the court.

We as a country got away from common sense and started to judge EVERYTHING on legality. Now our law is not a deterrent to any persons bent on becoming a criminal. And cops are treated with disdain.

I know. I know. Get the hell off my lawn you young sissy pukes.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Things are different now.  The recording device in the above picture is to be worn while on shift and must be recording anytime we deal with the general public in official capacity.  Very clear video and audio.

All is fault of lawyers!  I should've guessed.

I know it's nice to think that things have changed drastically...they haven't.  There's always been law abiding citizens, and law breakers.  Cops have had to fight, and have been shot at since the first one to strap on a gun and badge.

I think it's funny how all you "law and order" types, also get pissed about things being judge on "legality", (gotta say that's one of the funniest things I've ever read)  and hate it that the law applies to cops and bad guys too.

Why can't we go back to the good old days, when laws were a deterrent to criminals and good down-home folks respected the cops?

Aaahhhh....the good old days.

It will really be the good ol' days when we can get back to the government and it's agents making decisions on the spot about things without regard "the legality of it all" on such things as who needs their ass whipped, health care, cleaning up major ecological disaters, etc. etc.
