Freaknik May Return to Metro AreaUpdated: Thursday, 08 Apr 2010, 5:40 AM EDTPublished : Thursday, 08 Apr 2010, 5:40 AM EDTReported by Tacoma Perry | Edited by Steve DixonATLANTA - Police are gearing up for the possible return of one of the city's most infamous street parties. It's been more than a decade since Atlanta last experienced Freaknik. It was throngs of young people gathering in Atlanta - looking to party. The good and the bad was called Freaknik. Now there's a brand new effort to bring the party back to the area.Davinci Barcelo is planning the resurgence under the banner "I-Freaknik." he wanted to use a northwest Atlanta park for the event slated for next weekend, but requirements were not met.In fact, Atlanta authorities are concerned that any new event without the sanction of the city could be poorly planned and lead to clogged streets. The city said any festival must have a permit - and in order to obtain that you must have a traffic plan, a clean up plan, a security plan and submit an application at least 90 days in advance.Since the city has said "no," Barcelo has now shifted to Plan B - the Perimeter of Atlanta.I-Freaknik would start with a car-cade in southwest Atlanta. But without the blessing of the city, organizers are depending heavily on buzz.Baceleo said they plann to hit areas in the southeast and pass out at least 40,000 flyers.APD said they will be ready for whatever happens.
