Poll: What round will Ben Tate be drafted?

Tate is one of the tough guys in the toughest league. If (as mentioned) he has a good combine and his times are good he will last no longer than the third or fourth rounds. The guy is a surefire NFL back wherever he lands. Guys make it in that league grinding out 60- 75 yards and catching a couple of screens and swing passes. That is my amateur projection for a back that will not be facing seven and eight in the box on Sundays and keying on him while daring Todd to beat them.

I think you're 100% right on each point made.  I think Tate is going to suffer more from it being such a deep RB class rather than anything he controls.  I think he'll go in the 6th.  With that being said he certainly could go as high as mid-3rd.  That's an enormous jump considering how small the differences are between him and those competing for each contract.

I checked out a number of former backs and the majority of them have their most productive seasons 3 or 4 after a year or two and then decline slowly from the pounding and or injuries. A back with good hands and blocking skills can add to his longevity in todays game and speed is at a premium as always.

I'll say 4th Round.  I'm not sure if RBs are in high demand like in the past few years.  I see the #1 RB going about Mid 1st Round (C.J. Spiller).  With Tate, if he runs a great 40 (4.4-4.45) then he'll definitely go 4th Round or possibly 3rd Round.  Gone is the day that NFL teams have only one good RB, now they're wanting a Ground Pounder, a Bolt of Lightning and a mixture of the two.  With Tate, IMO, he's a mixture of the two.
This year, DTs and OL are in somewhat high demand.
