I'm so embarrassed for us
« on: January 28, 2010, 09:19:24 PM »
....this isn't football related.

I was shocked to see Auburn on ESPNUHD tonight.  At first I was kind of excited to see it (and it is still nice to be able to watch).  But damn, it looks like a 5-A high school atmosphere almost.  Maybe it's not as bad as it seems.  But because the camera is opposite the non-student side, it looks half empty.  Then, the obviously have the volume on the broadcast turned way up (so you can here some crowd noise and sounds of the game from the floor).  But because it's so relatively quiet, you can hear all these individual fans yelling.

It reminds me of watching the Braves on TBS back in the late 80s.  You could hear people in the crowd giving Pete Van Weiren things to say because there were only like 568 people there.  This has the same feeling. Or similar to when ESPN broadcasts a big HS game.

Anyway, I'm torn.  Nice to see Auburn on national TV, something I basically never get.  But also, after watching South Carolina's atmosphere the other night, this is a bit embarrassing.

I'll add that the Auburn gals doing the Campus Connection do us proud.  They're pretty attractive and did a nice job in front of the camera.  Of course, when the camera was on the floor level for one of them, you could see 1.5 million empty seats in the background.  Oh well, it is what it is for now I guess.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like they've gone out of the way to make the students look silly.

This is an absolute disgrace....

This is an embarrasment to Auburn University. The game itself, the level of play, the coaching, the whole broadcast. This is actually disgusting to me. Lebo needs to go now...our basketball program is horrible...

It was horrible.  I watched the entire thing.

The meltdown with about seven minutes left, going from three down and a chance to what, a dozen behind?  Fucking pathetic.

No offensive identity or strategy.  Lackadaisical defense. No enthusiasm. An empty house. The announcers yukking it up with some college kid who didn't really seem to know dick or shit about anything and the game was just an afterthought.

It was miserable in every respect.  Definitely not the image Auburn should project.

People turn out for the women's games -- even though they got their salad tossed by 31 at Tennessee.  When AU puts a competitive product on the court, people will turn out for the men's game, too.  Nobody wants to pay to see that pathetic shit, though.

Lebo?  Get the fuck out.

Seriously. And then, maybe then, our President will even see it and force JJ to rid of this guy. Especially when it starts embarrassing the entire school on national tv.

No offensive identity or strategy.  Lackadaisical defense. No enthusiasm. An empty house. The announcers yukking it up with some college kid who didn't really seem to know tool or poop about anything and the game was just an afterthought.

It was miserable in every respect.  Definitely not the image Auburn should project.

Lebo?  Get the phuk out.

Actually, the offensive identity and strategy is about the same as last year...live and die by the three.  At one point (when we were still up by 3 or 5), we were 11-31 from three point range.  We finished 11-36, and shot 37% overall.

Most frustrating?  Lebo's comment after the game...

Quote
"Pretty standard for us: Get to the 8-minute mark and we can't finish it out,".

Maybe we should try to score points off some offensive sets that are more reliable than streaky 3 point shooters?  But no, same thing ever time down the court, only difference is we didn't hit the threes in the end when it mattered.

But that's what happens when you're living and dying by the three.  If you're Duke or Syracuse and you have three guys that all shoot it over 40%, then you can do it.  We have one guy that shoots it at 40%, and we have three guys that have taken over 50 threes each and shoot less than 26% doing it.

Here's a stat for Lebo the lost leader of Auburn basketball...

Auburn is #1 in 3 pointers taken in the SEC (52 more than the next team).
Auburn is #10 in 3-pt % in the SEC (only Florida and LSU shoot it worse than we do, but they are #5 and #11 in attempts, not #1 like us).

Screw it, what's the point of even analyzing this anymore.  Same shit, year #5.  :dead:
