What's the storyline from this game? Did Bama's defense play so well that they stifled the Texas offense? Did Bama's offense put together a gameplan that controlled the clock and scored enough points to put the game away? Did Texas's coaching staff come in unprepared and look confused?
No.
The storyline is that Colt McCoy went down, and a true freshman had numerous opportunities to win but couldn't due to inexperience.
I'd rather watch USC dismantle Oklahoma ten times than rewatch this abomination. At least watching that game, you knew USC was just that damn good.
What's crazy is that even though he threw into quintuple coverage a few times, he also had receivers drop at least three passes that were first downs and one that was a touch down.
What's so irritating is that, even without McCoy, things could easily have gone so much different. I also think Texas wasted several possessions by making it even more impossible on Gilbert with their play calling. First down run, second down run, third and 8 (obvious passing down) then they ask him to pass when Bama knows
for sure it's coming.
Why didn't they have him throw a couple quick slants to Shipley on 1st or 2nd down. The defense at least wouldn't have been 100% expecting it. Oh well, what do I know...the UT coaches have won 5,796 games in recent years. And they did get the game back to 24-21.
