Auburn vs. Iowa State in a Bowl?
« on: November 28, 2009, 07:35:14 PM »
Just read where CBSSports projects an Independence Bowl match of Auburn vs. Iowa State.

Let me be the first to say that would suck beyond the telling of it.

Auburn people need to do whatever it takes so that this does NOT happen.  That is a point and laugh matchup and is a NO WIN situation for Auburn regardless ofthe outcome.

A national championship is a wonderful thing, but if you're not enough without it, you'll never be enough with it.

You got that poop right. Surely we would refuse?

Not picking on you, but why would we refuse?  We bought out of the FSU game in 1999 and opted out of playing UCLA next year in Atlanta.  I for one am tired of looking like we are a bunch of pansies.

If we are an elite program then why are we "refusing" to play Iowa State?  On a neutral field I would think the line would open around AU -17 to -20.  Didn't a saban lead bama team play them his first year in that bowl?

I don't feel picked on.

IMHO this would be a lose/lose situation for Auburn. Our team facing Chizik's old losing team? Who are now good enough to play against us in a bowl game? Fucking seriously? No. Even if we win, we lose.  And let's not even talk about the unthinkable....should we lose to ISU....

I say no.

Let's say JJ does say no to a match up against ISU (not gong to happen).  Is that not the biggest "lose" situation.  The national media laughing at AU for backing out of a bowl game against iowa freaking state.

If this does happen and AU loses to isu no one would care outside this state.  finebaum and the weird bama fans that hangout on this board would laugh at us.  But, there are so many meaningless bowl games most people outside this state wouldn't even realized they had played or that Chizik coached at isu.

It sucks, but if we don't like the bowl, we should have won more games.

We should have beaten Kentucky or Georgia.

Or Alabama.

It'll be a laugher, but I think we can win it pretty easily.  I still think Music City is our destination.  We have a huge fanbase in Nashville, and most Auburn fans in B'Ham and Atlanta will be willing to make the drive.

Arkansas is more suited for Shreveport.

In the end, money is the name of the game.

Nobody does, not for any legnth of time.  One season?  Sure.  Did Chizik win his first 2 years?  Nope?  Has he proven he's NOT a 5-19 coach?  Well by the standards YOU apply in making your smart-assed post, he's beat it by a long shot and is a "winning coach".   He's not, but this "one year makes or breaks the coach" thing with some fans is ridiculous.  Alll the talk like Greg Shchiano suddenly can't coach anymore because his record isn't as good as 2007 or when ever he was "the hot name".  All the "bet Auburn is glad they didn't hire Turner Gill now" talk because he didn't do as well this year.  No coach is defined by one season.

Did Chizik contribute to Rhoades success?  In some way I'm sure he did, but Rhoades gets the credit for coaching them this season.  I half expected Rhoades to be a good HC, and probably wouldn't have minded Auburn hiring him near as much as I minded the hiring of Chizik.  At this point, I'd take Chizik though which is NOT to say I think he's suddenly great, but he's proved a few things, and left some questions too.

Bottom line is this...it IS a matchup made in heaven FOR THE MEDIA...for the story line.  Auburn would have nothing to gain other than an 8th win, and lots to lose if they lose the game, and an entire off-season about how Auburn went to ISU to hire a loser coach when a winner was already in the fold and got taken by ISU.  And though it will hurt to hear, it won't mean shit in the long run any more than Schiano's or Gill's record this year defines them this year over year's past.  We won't lose recruits to ISU if we lose, nor gain any with a win.  And NO, you don't refuse a bowl bid...it's money, AND for the team, EXTREMELY valuable practice time you don't get unless you play in the bowl.

Let it be...it will or won't happen, and Auburn will play who they're matched with.  I hope they are up for it, and play well, regardless of the opponent.

You are an absolute waste of fuckin' skin.  You know nothing about football in general, you add Zero to any topic, unless it's about hatred towards Jay Jacobs or Tim Jackson.  Another thing, when you walked back into your house, Coach Dye walked back onto your property and took a dump on your porch.  Fuckin' retarded bammer.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

If Auburn is matched with Iowa State, the whole 5-19 story will get told for a month. Then, if Auburn loses, that shit lasts the entire offseason.
