I want the SEC reputation to be completely soiled.

I hope Florida St pulls a shocker against Florida.

I hope we experience a miracle against Alabama.

I hope Florida and Alabama play a loser-fest in the SECCG.

I hope Texas beats Florida by 20 points in the NC.

Only 3 here are possible.  It's impossible for Auburn to beat Alabama and Alabama will play Texas for the 2009 National Championship.

It isn't impossible...but, I hope the SPuat players feel that it is.  In fact, I hope that some of the players feel that this is the same Auburn team that they faced last year.  I also hope that they don't think 87,000+ fans will affect their abilities to call plays and/or communicate on the field.

It is absolutely impossible.  In no way is it possible that the 2009 Auburn football team can win this game.

52K+ with nearly the whole damn stadium ringing cowbells and screaming at the top of their lungs isn't a bad warmup. We didn't even have a false start in that game. I think communications are good.

I think the mentality we are showing is good. Don't try go get hyped up on this game. Don't get those butterflies in your stomach. Just go out there and do what you do. This is just another week, and another team you have to beat to get to the prize. AU is going to be running purely on emotion. And guess what? If things don't go quite AU's way, that emotion is going to get sucked right out of them. I don't want our guys playing on that sort of emotion. Take the emotion out of it, and go play football.

I believe he was referring to the loudness of the atmosphere as created by 50G's worth of cowbells.  Whether he was referring to that or not, it looks like Dan Mullen is on a mission to change the way the other 5 teams in the west view Miss St.  I'd say we're 3 years away from your question being unfortunately laughable.

I wouldn't laugh too hard. AU only has one more conference win than MSU. At least they beat Kentucky in Lexington. If not for totally boneheaded playcalling, MSU would have beaten LSU as well and had the same SEC record as AU. Should you really be laughing at them when AU is right there next to last in the West?

I good cowbell is about $13, so "50gs worth of cowbells" will buy you only 3,846 cowbells.  That's not a lot of noise really compared to 87,451 people.  Just sayin.

As for what we'll be saying in three years....history shows that likely we'll think about the same thing we do now.  They can upset some people, and you have to take them serious, but they are unlikely to sustain any kind of success.  Since....well, forever, they have won 8 games in back to back seasons exactly three times....e v e r.  1998-2000, 1980-81, and 1939-42.

And just because Auburn is struggling and has a similar SEC record to MSU, our history shows the opposite of what I just mentioned about MSU.  Since 1960, Auburn has only gone more than two years without 8 wins two times.  1975-78 and 1964-68.  Auburn has won 9 games 16 times since 1980 (Alabama has done it 14 times, just for reference).  MSU has won 9 games 2 times since 1980, and only FOUR times total in their whole history.

The point is, MSU is MSU, and if Mullen has some success there, he'll most likely end up somewhere else like LSU or Georgia, etc.

I'm also kind of thinking the "we had no false starts at MSU" is kind of irrelevant anyway.  You also didn't have a TD against Tennessee in your own stadium, and gained only 256 yards against them.  And actually two of your FGs were 49 and 50 yards.  Auburn scored two TDs and had two FGs inside the 10 yard line (on 459 yards).  Is all of that relevant?  I hope so, but not likely.  But it's at least more relevant than no false starts in the midst of 3,846 cowbells.

FWIW, I don't believe he was talking about monetary value. He is talking about 50,000 people with cowbells. At least, thats what I was talking about. So, when somebody says that all of the noise is going to cause an issue with communications, and I cite another pretty loud environment where we had no communications issue, how is that irrelevant?

In your example, if we were comparing performances, and AU was similar to UT in statistics against like opponents, i.e. being a similar team, then you could compare performances and say hey, another UT-like performance could happen, or hey, this is what we are capable of.

I know he wasn't talking money, that's what made my joke a joke.

It's not completely irrelevant, I'm just saying to cite one game isn't really a good enough sample size to make the point.  Just like I used the Tennessee game to show how we could win....I also could use several other games (like Arkansas) to show how we may lose by 48.

Now if you had played Tennessee, LSU, and even Arkansas on the road and had no penalties, then that would be a more relevant argument or at least more comparable to what playing at Auburn will be like.

In fact, until just now, I didn't really realize how light Alabama's road schedule was this year.  Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State....interesting.

Because last season was the opposite? We were on the road for UGA, UT, LSU, Arky, and Clemson in 2008. This season USCe was in our rotation, and we played at home. In the 2010 season we will play at whoever rotates in from the East.
