Man, RWS...
In one offhand statement you confirmed every stereotype we've always known about the collective Alabama fanbase.
You have no idea WHY you're an Alabama fan. That's the sad and pathetic nature of most of those who call themselves Bama fans. You are just because you are and you don't have the first clue of what else might be out there. It's basically cultural ignorance.
I'm an Auburn fan, 100%. But I've been to Auburn. And to about every other SEC stadium (and a bunch of non-SEC). I know why I'm an Auburn fan and my love for all things AU is only strengthened when I visit other places -- because they're not Auburn and never will be.
You don't have that frame of reference. You don't know what Alabama even is.
My dad is a Notre Dame fan. He doesn't particulary like Alabama, but doesn't hate them either. My mother doesn't give a shit about football. My grandfather and grandmother on my father's side were HUGE AU fans. I watched alot of games on TV with all of them. Most of my friends in school were AU fans. There were a few Alabama fans, but alot of AU fans. Its not like I wasn't exposed to other things, I just simply chose to become an Alabama fan. I'm sure there are AU fans out there that have never stepped foot on campus or that have never gone to a game. Every fanbase does. I don't see where that changes anything, really. I can see where you appreciate it more being there, being a part of the school, etc.
If that makes me stereotypical, then go ahead and slap that label on. Thats fine with me.
