He just conceded the race an it looks like Christie is the new Gov in NJ. How long has it been since the state had a Repub governor? It looked like VA was a clean sweep. I am still wondering if Hoffman is going to pull it out. I was glad to see Fred endorse him an was pulling for him, but it's not looking good.

I was vexed by the results of these races until I remembered the trite but true saying that all politics is local; the only thing that the loathsome Tip O'Neill ever said that I agree with completely.
I'm probably going to diverge from many of you with my remarks on the NY 23 Congressional District race. I agree that Dede Scozzafava was a terrible candidate but to introduce a third party guaranteed the win for the Democrat in this case, I think, because this is a traditionally heavily Republican congressional district. It's clear that she and Hoffman split that vote (even though she suspended her campaign).
The biggest lesson that should be taken away from the NY 23 election is that there is a reason for the Closed Primary process. Had there been a primary Scozzafava would have failed (because she really is a bad candidate and I don't come to that conclusion about her just because I disagree with her politics)...Hoffman would have won the primary then gone on to win the election in this congressional district.
But, now, because of the back room dealings of the local Republican leaders in NY 23 and the 'Silly Party' (that's a Monty Python reference by the way) running a third candidate there we have one more Dem in the congress to help Pelosi.
(Actually 2 more Dems because they won in the California 10th Congressional District Special Election too, in that race there was a liberal Democrat, a conservative Republican, a really liberal Green Party candidate, a conservative American Independent Party candidate, and a "Peace and Freedom Party" candidate-whatever the fuck that means!- Yes, more third, fourth, and fifth party candidate lunacy...there was a full moon, guess I should have seen that coming.)
I am thrilled with the conservative Republican wins in Virginia and New Jersey...but, these wins can do nothing to help stop the socialists in Congress from further pushing their agendas.
