Well, well, well...

Quote
Auburn, Ala.--Several months before the start of the 2009 season, it was questionable if Chris Todd would ever play another down of college football.

On Thursday the Auburn senior was one of a dozen players added to the watch list for the 2009 Maxwell Award, which is presented annually to the top player in college football. Todd joins teammate Ben Tate on the list.

Unable to practice in the spring after having shoulder surgery, he was an unknown factor to Coach Gene Chizik and the new Auburn coaching staff when preseason drills began in August. However, he moved up the depth chart and was named the starter prior to the opener vs. Louisiana Tech and has played well in helping the Tigers to a 5-0 start.

Todd has completed 81-138 passes for 1,230 yards and 12 touchdowns with just one interception. He is rated seventh nationally in yards per completion at 15.2. He is also seventh in touchdown passes with 12 and is rated eighth in the country in passing efficiency at 160.81.

The Tigers are coming off a 26-22 road win over Tennessee and will play at 11 a.m. this Saturday at Arkansas.

The senior tied the school record for most touchdown passes in a game with five and became the first player in Auburn history to have at least four touchdowns in back-to-back games.

The winner of the Maxwell Award, which has been presented each year since 1937, will be announced on Dec. 10th.

Whats amazing to me is that Chris Todd has made such a turn around. Im not suprised at all that Tate is on the watch list but after last year and the connection that many Auburns made b/w Todd and last years disaster, I dont think anyone saw this coming. I will say though, Todd as beaten the odds and has worked his ass off to get this point. Whether he wins the award or not, it still speaks volumes about his character to weather the criticism and still be man enough to go out and get it done. It would be easy to say that he really didnt have considerable competition to win the starting QB position, which he didnt, but he has done very well has managing the offense to the point of not making mistakes and not making us one dimensional. His numbers speak for themselves and are comparable to any of the other douche bags running for Heisman.
