Against a team that is a hell of a lot better than FIU, and that your team is 0-2 against.
Well, we did play alot of backups, didn't have our primary WR or RB, and didn't even throw a pass after the 3rd quarter. I'll take 40-14. However, I think our team is having an issue pacing themselves. The coaches have put a big emphasis on finishing games, and not losing it in the 4th quarter such as we did in the SECCG. So now, our guys play halfass for most of the game, then turn into worldbeaters in the 4th quarter. That shit will get us beat down the road. They're trying to leave enough gas in the tank to still be effective in the 4th, but they're not doing all that great of a job doing it, relative to their performance in the first three quarters.
One thing I am glad to see is I really think our QB question is answered. McElroy did well against VT, and he would have had a 100% completion ratio at halftime against FIU had Julio not dropped one in the endzone. Total game, he was 18/24 241 yards 1TD with a 10 yard average, and that was throwing to true freshmen and backup receivers. Trent Richardson (3rd string) had 15 carries for 118 yards and 2 TD, and Terry Grant (4th string) had 6 carries for 69 yards and 1 TD. We racked up 516 total yards and 26 first downs. I will take it, but there is still some shit that needs to be fixed, ESPECIALLY on special teams. Two KO returns for TDs in two games in a row is unacceptable. Marquis Johnson and Kareem Jackson HAVE to get their heads out of their asses in the secondary, or we need to find some guys to replace them in the dime package.
