Punch a player, lifetime ban. Swing at a ref?
« on: September 06, 2009, 04:04:29 PM »
Simple question.

Why wasn't Ronald McDonald McClain ejected for swinging at a ref in Alabama's game last night? Why wasn't he removed from the field? Why didn't he even miss a series?

The kid from Oregon gets what could in reality amount to a lifetime ban for throwing a punch, but McClain gets a smirk from Saban?

That seems like bullshit to me.

Because he didn't take a swing at a referee. You can go see on the SEC Digital Network site, he didn't take a swing at the ref. Hands never even came up, I don't think. He bumped the referees as he was jaw jacking the VT player. Two refs were standing between him and the VT player, and he kept walking towards the VT player. Still, what he did was not right and he never should have done it. Definite bonehead move, and I wasn't happy with it.

What started it was the VT player decking him from behind in the end zone as he had turned around after the play. Still, its no excuse. You wait until the next play and show that fucker, you don't draw a personal foul because you're pissed off. Would I have been upset had he been ejected? No. You don't even bump a referee, no matter how pissed you are at some other guy. He was pretty lucky.

Or compare it to Blount's knock out punch??  Not even close.

McClain should still be punished.  He was wrong and should have been ejected by the ref.

Because he did. Or maybe the referee simply just walked into McClains fist.

He should have been ejected.

Do you have a clip anywhere other than having to load the whole game on the SEC site?

Saint Rolando was only protecting himself from a Virginia Tech assassin and was pretty sure that the referees were androids sent from Planet Xernon to destroy us all.  That's why he assaulted them.  Only when he felt their flesh recoil from his blow did he realize his error.  Saint Ronaldo knows that android technology isn't sophisticated enough -- yet -- to accurately mimic human skin.

Thank GOD he was there, though, to protect us all.

What was I thinking suspension?  He should get a medal or something.

You fucking apologists are ridiculous.  He was not accosted from behind and retaliating. He started pushing at the beginning of the play.  Sack of shit revisionists trying to justify his punkishness.

Spin it any way you want, the refs tried to get control of him ... and if the VT guy was the aggressor as you foolishly try to spin it, why weren't referees trying to restrain HIM?  So they're trying to control the guy and he's shoving and pushing away.

He should have been ejected and there should be suspensions in the wake.  But it's Bama and what else do you expect.  Thugs.

Did the guy who assaulted his girlfriend play?

You either didn't watch the game and are going off what someone told you, or you are trying to get a rise out of the Bama fans.

You're putting words in my mouth. I didn't even attempt to make it out like McClain was in the right, and you're totally dramatizing it. You are simply adding an inflammatory scenario to it. He got hit after the play by a VT player, and they didn't see it. He decided to finish it when he caught up to the guy down the field, and they saw that. Then he acted like an idiot. The VT player was smarter about it and decided to not show his ass in front of the refs, because he knew they didn't see the first part. Should McClain have been ejected? Probably. Apparently the referees, who were standing there between the two, felt he didn't need to be. I'm guessing they heard what the problem was while words were exchanged. I don't know. But, I'm guessing if they felt an ejection was warranted, they would have done it.

Anyone have a clip??

Right now the only thing I can find is on the SEC digital network, but you have to load the whole game.  I just watched the incident numerous times.  As the ref was pushing McClain away from the VT player, McClain pushed the refs arms down away from him.

He should have been ejected and deserves punishment, no doubt.  He DIDN'T, at any point, hit the ref with his fists, and it was no where near comparable with Blount's right hand.

Sounds fair.  As far as the Blount comparison, I think it's fair to say the author of that comment is known for the occassional "embellishment" to make a point.

McClain was flagged for a personal foul and is walking back towards the huddle. He turns back around towards the two officials (VT guy is 3 yards or so on the other side) and starts thugging his arms around like a trashy punk. McClain then swings his right arm and makes contact with the official to his left, with enough force to knock the refs right shoulder back. Keep in mind that this ref was moving towards McClain to urge him to walk away. The refs momentum was towards McClain, but some outside force caused his shoulder to get knocked back (mysteriously at the same moment fuck head took the swing). McClain gets flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Nah, nothing happened. Defend it, bammers.

Was this at the end of the first half?  Because I watched the SEC Ditgital Network reply (Freakin' Awesome btw) and I never saw a replay of the incident.  If it was the incident at the end of the 1st half, then yes Rolo could've gotten ejected, it was a 15 yard Personal Foul AND a 15 yard Unsportsmanlike Penalties, but since they were within 15 yards of the endzone it was half the distant to the goal, automatic first down.

Wha??  THAT was too much for you??????? That you make the occassional embellisment??  For fuck sake. :eyeroll:

I just saw the clip finally.  Definitely the play fits right in the middle of where everyone is describing in my opinion...  Amped up, overly thuggish and should have been ejected.  Definitely needed an opportunity to "chill out".  The fact he wasn't sat or dealt with that I know of is interesting for sure... However, I've come to expect really nothing more from Saban.
