Okay  keep hoping Coach Chizik fails.
The density of your skull amazes me.
There is a VAST difference between hope and expectation. I
hope I shoot 64 the next time I play golf. Based on my previous play and given the course conditions I anticipate, I
expect to shoot somewhere between 80 and 105. Big range, yes I know, but my game can be wildly inconsistent.
I
hope Auburn never loses another football game for the next 25 years. Based on his past experiences and on the conditions (both internal and external) he faces, I
expect Chizik to struggle in his role. I do not see him as the long-term answer for Auburn.
This is the genesis of a column I am writing anyway. Between good-to-great coaches at any institution there is always a "tweener." A guy who does some things well, but doesn't have the total package. Alabama had Bryant and then there were a couple of tweeners before Stallings. Then a couple of tweeners before Saban. Florida went Spurrier - Zook (tweener) - Meyer. Ole Miss went Cutcliffe - Orgeron (tweener) - Nutt.
Numerous other examples.
Gene Chizik is our tweener.
If I'm wrong, you know what? I'm just wrong. It's happened before. I thought Ryan Leaf had all the tools to be a great NFL QB and would have taken him over Peyton. I was wrong. His head was cheese. Maybe I'm wrong here. I doubt it, though. But if I am, what's the worst case scenario? Auburn is better than I expect and I have to take some shit from a few people? Big deal. I'd rather take shit from you than watch Auburn suffer.
I fully expect Auburn to win a few games this season. if we avoid injuries we should make a bowl game. If we don't it's a travesty. But one season, unless it's a total debacle or a glorious miracle, won't tell the tale on Chizik.
