Did the big cat weekend inadvertantly help the enemy?
« on: June 06, 2009, 12:05:48 AM »
As I said when the big cat weekend went down I was willing to give the coaching staff  better than usual remarks about it. I was embarrassed by the bush league limo tour but thought that this was worth getting some secondary violations because this was a good idea.

Then I went to supper tonight.

There were 3 other couples along with my wife and me. I was the only Auburn graduate/supporter at the table hell probably in the whole restaurant. The subject came up (by the other men in the party) and I sat back to quietly listen to them put the bammer spin on it. After listening to a few minutes of it I was shocked to say the least. Apparently since only 24 were invited several of the other recruits that had Auburn placed high on their list are feeling well for the lack of a better word...ignored.  Its got several recruits and more importantly their parents pretty pissed.
As I said this was just dinner talk with a bunch of bammers so I usually don't put stock in what they have to say but it was enough to get me to wondering if chizik didn't fuck up yet again.
I realize that many of you hate me and don't believe how deeply I love Auburn but I honestly want you to think for a few minutes before you answer whether or not you feel that this may have backfired big time.
I'm not posting on this thread again I just want to hear what you the chizik suckers and the wait and see people feel that this might have been another not thought all the way through plan.

Here's the spin.  This the first time in the history of this program that we've had this many top rated recruits on campus...ever.  If you want to sit back and listen to spin...no need.  Go to B'ham's tongue in cheek post about Auburn getting one of the top receivers in the country to verbal.  Funny as hell but the reality is, he recited VERBATIM every damn thing Auburn fans have been saying about Nick Saban and Alabama since he got there.

Fuck, we can't even enjoy it when this staff works it's collective ass off to get this program headed back towards the top.  I think some people just want them to lay down on the tracks and let the train run over them.  There is no downside to this.

Maybe we should invite Tommy Tuberville and his elite staff back to run some camps and recommend a few diamonds in the rough.

Auburn invited more than the 24 Big Time recruits that showed up.  There were prospects that couldn't get there because of traveling reasons and there were others that had a busy schedule already planned for the upcoming weeks.  Camps started at campuses, a couple of weeks ago, and it started in Auburn this weekend.  There will be another "Big Cat Weekend" type of event that the coaches are setting up, mainly for the prospects that weren't able to make the last one, for a few that were and for a few of the commitments.

Another thing....if the "Big Cat Weekend" wasn't that important or special, then do tell as to why bammers feel that recruits, I'm assuming they're big-timers, and parents that are upset that they didn't get invited?  It could be because it really was a big deal and the bammers know it.  Get ready to hear how the next "Big Weekend" wasn't a big deal.

While I disagree with your premise, I at least would like to point out that at least this criticism, unlike most of your others, is at least coherent and is based somewhat in reality. If you only made posts like this, you might not be as universally hated.

You'd be Kaos.

So let me get this straight...some bammers are figuring out any way they can think of to spin it negatively, they start suggesting that this may have offended some recruits, and you're fretting over it?   And you're floating it out their like they did something wrong.  Like they could have every fucking recruit in the nation on campus...if they had the bammers would be saying they pissed off and offended the ones that wanted more individual attention, and you'd be fretting over that.  So it really doesn't fucking matter what Chizik does as long as you keep letting bammers tell you what to think about it.

As I said when the big cat weekend went down I was willing to give the coaching staff  better than usual remarks about it. You've never said a remotely positive thing about any of the new staff, or anything they've done.  I was embarrassed by the bush league limo tour but thought that this was worth getting some secondary violations because this was a good idea. Typical...the limo deal, while cheesy, was effective for good PR.  The big cat weekend was a fairly typical recruiting event, but it got publicized.

Then I went to supper tonight.

There were 3 other couples along with my wife and me. I was the only Auburn graduate/supporter at the table hell probably in the whole restaurant. One of your problems, one of the many, is that you run with too many bammers...fuck what they say!  The subject came up (by the other men in the party) and I sat back to quietly listen to them put the bammer spin on it.  So, you don't have the nuts to fuck with bammers in person, but live here fucking with Auburn people...and wonder why you're hated and called a bammer  After listening to a few minutes of it I was shocked to say the least. Shocked that bammers would put a negative spin on Auburn?  What fucking planet do you live on?    Apparently since only 24 were invited several of the other recruits that had Auburn placed high on their list are feeling well for the lack of a better word...ignored.  And so it was said, and now it is fact?  Its got several recruits and more importantly their parents pretty pissed.  Said who?
As I said this was just dinner talk with a bunch of bammers so I usually don't put stock in what they have to say but it was enough to get me to wondering if chizik didn't fuck up yet again. I'm not claiming otherwise.  I was merely pointing out that GW getting his panties in a bunch because of negative bammer spin is like getting torqued up because the sun had the audacity to rise the motherfucking east today.
