It's just understood that every coach's staff/underlings/minions at bama pays players.

Did you not get the memo when you signed up here?
Apparently not. Why don't you fuckers keep people in the loop around here?

So the things that you have seen and think you know carry more weight than the things I have seen and personnally know.....yeah right.

Uh oh, look out!! We've come across the double secret Chizik slept with my sister/wife if only I could tell you deepthroat who killed JFK information again!!

I am not smart enough to do it, but can someone start a poll to see what everyone thinks Greezybammer's secret info on Chizik would reveal?

Ha...that's an angle I had not considered.  Ron Zook...interesting.

At this point, I think that is the most likely senario.  Lots of noise, lots of fanfare, good recruiting, and sub-par to average on the field performances.

Another thing to consider is this.  To better what he replaced, he's going to have to win 2 SECCs and one NC in his first 5 seasons.  That's a tall order for any coach.

I hope I'm wrong, and I don't want him to fail, but if he does, it better damn well be a 2 for 1 deal, and cost Jacobs his job too!

Interesting way of looking at it. I agree that filling CTT's shoes will be tough. I still think getting rid of CTT was an uber-stupid move on AU's part though. I could understand if it was somebody that was a clear-cut step up. I was a little worried at first because I thought if they were getting rid of CTT, then they must have somebody pretty damn good waiting. I'm glad I was (hopefully) wrong.

Knowing what I believe I know, and believing what I believe...Tuberville's time had run it's course, and he chose to be forced out by refusing to make any changes on a stagnant staff.  I used to be an advocate of keeping coaches around through down times, a la Jeff Fisher at the Titans or Cowher at the Steelers...or even Joe Pa...but Tuberville needed a change.  I think in an ideal world Tuberville would liked to have taken a couple of years off and come back, but you you know wha they say, "You can't go back home again".  2004 took all the wind out of Tubs sails.  Those type seasons are once in a career, and to have come away cheated like he did, I think he felt like he was kicked in the nuts, especially in light of Jet Gate, and the way some Auburn people would still say "When is he going to get us to the next level?"  Is there another "level" past undefeated in the SEC?  What the fuck is it?

By the way, Tubs will be back coaching at a major program within 2 years.  Auburn people are going to shit their britches when he wins a national championship somewhere like Miami.

Sounds like a Mike Shula type situation, except Shula really had nothing backing him as a negotiating piece. The only thing I've ever had against CTT is he beat us 6 years in a row. I don't get all pissed off about the holding up X amount of fingers thing. Its all part of the rivalry. When he held up 7 fingers before the 08 Iron Bowl it still wasn't classless, but only an ironic memory after the ass whipping that ensued.

In your opinion, how much did that push to get a less stagnant staff and make other changes have to do with what was happening in Tuscaloosa?

If you know something is coming up though why in the world would you not prepare yourself, your school and future generations to be better off?

To the best of my recollection, none of Stallings' assistants were paying money to a player or arranged loans for a player.

and yet that is not what you said.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

I'll be willing to bet that Tubs will be the HC at Texas A&M next season...unless their current coach pulls a 9+ win season out of his ass this year.

Your knowledge is false.

Really? Even after he (Dye) said in an interview that this is the most welcomed he has been to the program in years?

I was at a coaching clinic in Auburn the second year after Tuberville was hired.  Dye was there. He had his arm around Tuberville's shoulder, praised him to high heaven and said exactly the same thing. He was "finally welcome in the football complex again..."

The problem though, is that he WAS hired and he WILL be our corch this year.  I don't know of a soul, Prowler included, who wanted this hire.  I think everyone was pretty clear about that.  However, most people, Prowler included, have realized Chizik is the man, like it or not.  And you can either get behind him and Auburn Football 100% and look for the positives since he's been here....or you can gloom and doom your way through life...as if a corching selection affects your livelihood and well being in some strange way.

Not exactly.

There's a difference between resigned acceptance to what is and blindly supporting it because it is.

I'm behind Auburn 1000%.  But Auburn is not Gene Chizik or Jay Jacobs or Chizad or Prowler or you or me.

What was "happening" in Tuscaloosa surely factored in, and in a number of ways.  Not in the way you hear on the net or talk radio like "Tubs was skeered".  It was just another team in the SEC improving it's level of competition.   It happened to be our in state rival.  It was not the determining factor.

Could be, but I hope he holds out for a better job.  Nobody has won at TA&M in a decade.  It's not likely to start now with the likes of TX and OU dominating, and OSU and Tx Tech competing.  I don't know what the malfuncion is at A&M, but it's not a good job now.

I agree, I don't think CTT was skeered as much as the BOT, AD, etc paniced. I think it was manageable until the Iron Bowl, then everything boiled over. Personally, I wouldn't say that what was happening in Tuscaloosa was THE determining factor, but I think it played a decent sized role in the administration's decision to at least push CTT to make certain changes, whatever those may have been.

The changes were long overdue.  When he fired Borges, he should have canned Knox and Ensminger at the very least, and a clean sweep of the offensive staff, except maybe Gran, would have made sense too.  That is not to say he should have allowed Franklin to bring his own staff.  Contrary to what you keep hearing people say, that just doesn't happen.  Everybody called Tubs a "CEO" type coach.  Well, he was too close to his core asst. coaches.  And they were too happy being position coaches for life.   Turnover on a staff is a good thing if it's because your ACs are moving up to bigger jobs.  Stagnation on a staff is often confused with stability.  Bryant surrounded himself with guys that wanted to be head coaches, and he was happy to help them get any HC job in the country except his.
