Taking my first cruise.....
« on: April 20, 2009, 01:14:26 AM »
I'm getting married this Friday, then the week after we will be leaving out of New Orleans for our honeymoon trip on the Carnival ship Fantasy for a 5 day cruise. We're going to Cozumel and Progresso, and we are going to tour the Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins. Has anybody here ever been on the Fantasy, and do you have any tips that they don't really tell you or anything like that? She has been on the Holiday out of Mobile numerous times, but this will be my first time going period and her first time on the Fantasy.

Congrats man, I went to Chichen Itza on my honeymoon its a very cool place. The merchants are very aggressive salesman and I thought they were annoying as hell, but the ruins are a must see. My advice would be to relax as much as possible!

Don't forget to have some sweet Glamour Shots made.  The bow of the boat (a la Titanic) is very scenic.  If you forget to do it while you're cruising, I'm sure Sears will have an appropriate backdrop.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

I pictured the Carnival cruise lines as a bit more luxurious than this.

Yeah, we ended up getting a 7 day cruise to Key West, Freeport, and Nassau for the price of a 5-day cruise to Mexico. The only extra we had to pay was the extra two days of parking at the cruise terminal. Key West was pretty cool. There is alot of history there and I think alot of crazy people that used to live there back in the day. I don't know if any of you have ever been to Prichard, but I swear to God, when I woke up the morning we were in Freeport, I thought we had sailed to Prichard. That place is a total shithole. There is nothing within like 10 miles of the port, and you have to take an old ass taxi van into town. They drop you off at the Isle of Capri Casino and across the street from that there is like a ½ square mile maybe of places to shop. That is about it. Nassau was pretty cool. Not alot of history really, but a pretty cool little downtown area that is very close to the boat. We ate lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe and then went shopping for some gift and souvenir type stuff for everybody back home.

The experience on the boat was pretty cool. Christine had always gone on cruises on the Holiday out of Mobile, but its pretty much a floating turd compared to the Fantasy. There is always something to do on the boat, and I swear I gained about 10 pounds. She had a few cold delicious adult beverages while on board, but I didn't, so we came away with little extra expense. I might drink once every two months or so, but when I do, I will drink like a fifth of Crown or something. I figured I didn't want to get on a roll at $6.50 a pop on the boat. Alcohol was way cheaper on the boat and in Nassau if you are buying from the on board liquor store or a shop on land. A 3 liter of Crown on the boat was like $62.33, or you could buy two fifths for $32.95. A fifth of Crown Royal Reserve was like $35 on the boat as well. I saw a fifth in Nassau for $17.95. I would have bought some, but I have so fucking much Crown at the house from people giving gifts to me, its not even funny.

All in all, it was a pretty good time. I was away from home for a week, ate alot, fucked alot, saw some cool shit. Can't complain too much.
