I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty excited to have some AU Football going on. I realize it's only spring practice, but at least it's football.
STARTING POINTWednesday, March 25, 2009RAY MELICKNews staff writerAUBURN - It was, said Gene Chizik, "a place to start."The Auburn Tigers took to the practice field for the first time under their new head football coach Tuesday night with the promise that "everybody has a shot, nobody inherits a position, everyone starts new."Neil Caudle is counting on it.The junior quarterback from Spain Park ran with the second offense on the first day of practice, while returning starter Kodi Burns ran with the first unit. But that, Caudle said, will change Thursday, at the second practice."Coach said I'll be out there first, and Kodi will go second," Caudle said. Not that there really is a first or second or third team right now. Chizik said the coaches have made certain evaluations based on watching film and the offseason program, but those evaluations are primarily for organizational purposes."You have to have a starting point," Chizik said. What Caudle says he has learned is that it won't be a slow start."Practice is at a real fast pace," he said. "Faster than what we're used to. We didn't do everything right, but we did everything in a hurry."But the coaches were exactly the way they've been every day since they got here. With Coach Chizik, there is no gray area. The first day on the practice field was exactly what we expected."New offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn's offense is based on tempo and timing. He likes to be able to go no-huddle at any point in a game, particularly after long gains, which he believes is a good time to catch a defense before it has time to adjust. Caudle said that tempo carries over into everything Malzahn does."He's always coaching - after every throw on the practice field, every snap, when he passes you in the hallway," Caudle said. "He never takes a second off. He talks fast, thinks fast, he's fast-paced."And because of that, Caudle believes Malzahn is going to want to decide on a quarterback in a hurry, too, even though Chizik said it was probably a "little ambitious" to think the quarterback situation would be settled quickly."I think he wants to decide sooner rather than later," Caudle said. "So I've got to stand out, and stand out soon."I think everyone had a good day today. There were mistakes, because it was the first day. But I believe (the coaches) when they say the competition is open. I'm counting on it."Chizik made it clear he doesn't like to talk about injuries, and wouldn't go into any great detail about the status of players such as tight end Tommy Trott, defensive back Aairon Savage or offensive tackle Lee Ziemba, all of whom had knee surgery at some point last fall."I don't really like to get into a whole lot with the injury situation," Chizik said. "But I think everybody knows that there has been some issues there. What we're planning on doing is practicing every one of those guys. We're planning on practicing them and them doing as much as their physical limitations will let them do."Auburn is scheduled to return to the practice field Thursday.
Here's a video for those that weren't able to attend.http://jaygtate.blogspot.com/
Great video, but I thought that the practices were closed to media/fans.
Yesterday was a "media day" of sorts. The exception to the rule. It's gonna be closed from here on out.
Great video, but I thought that the practices were closed to media/fans. I predict someone will bitch and moan about Kodi's "not running the 'I'" statement. Primary suspect: Kaos (sample argument: you can't abandon your fundamental philosophy and expect to be successful; see also: recruiting - Texas)
No. I have nothing to say. The sight of Chizik makes me absolutely fucking queasy and to hear him speak sends me into full-blown nausea. I have no respect for dumb people and he looks and sounds dumb. I'm going to hope he proves me wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.
I'm not holding my breath.
We kinda wish you would. At least on this subject. Maybe you and greasycock could have a competition?
I have no respect for dumb people and he looks and sounds dumb.
I'm not commenting on this. You all are aware of my position so it is now time to let coach fuckhead begin his sodomization of the Auburn football program. May God have mercy on our souls.
