Yet another tax on the poor
« on: March 06, 2009, 12:13:23 PM »
I thought Obama only wanted to raise taxes on the rich?  A new 61 cent per pack excise tax on cigs, I guess only the rich smoke

I hope all the idiots that voted for this imbecile are getting what their unemployed lazy asses wanted

More price hikes due for cigarettes
Posted Mar 05 2009, 02:00 PM by Kim Peterson Rating:  Filed under: Kim Peterson, Altria
Will cigarette smokers have any money left for anything else? Altria Group (MO) says it will soon raise prices on Marlboro and other brands by 71 cents a pack. In less than a month, a federal excise tax will kick in to the tune of 61 cents per pack.

The Altria price hike -- the third in as many months -- is a reaction to the new federal tax. Altria thinks cigarette sales could drop a bit, so it's increasing prices to make up for the loss. Now, analysts at Credit Suisse expect Altria's revenue to grow this year instead of decline.

The average price for cigarettes will soon be above $5 a pack, according to Credit Suisse. That probably won't have much of an impact on smokers, the analysts said, since sales volume didn't really change in states where prices have already surpassed that mark.

I wonder, then, what is the price level that will finally turn off smokers?

This particular tax hike is all part of the revenue scheme that the Democrats socialists and The ONE cooked up to fund the new and expanded S-CHIP (State Childrens Health Insurance Program) which The ONE signed into law mere days after he took the oath of office.  This program is a back door method of creating and expanding a nationalized health care plan.

I've ranted on it numerous times since it effects the price of all tobacco products not just cigarettes.  Bush vetoed it twice by the way.

Here's a recent rant:

I know that the S-CHIP doesn't mean much to most of you X'ers but most of you will know how much I've ranted on it in this forum because of the significant increase in taxes on tobacco products...namely cigars!

Here's the most recent thread with my rant: http://tigersx.net/forum/index.php?topic=4394.0

It just passed Congress (this afternoon) and The ONE is set to sign it this very afternoon.

All of you X'er cigar smokers who don't buy online might want to go and buy your cigars now before the increased tax goes into effect.

I really hate this , as usual, all emphasis and sub-text is my own:

I guess "smoke 'em while you got 'em" is in order!
