"And I was filled with awe and terror."

Actually his speech was not quite as downbeat as I had expected it to be however judging by Wall Street's reaction it was not as great and inspiring as the fawning MSM made it out to be.  I did have trouble seeing past the bug-eyed Nancy Pelosi and smirking Joe Biden both sporting what looked to me like recent botox refreshers treatments.

The seemingly constant refrain of shared sacrifice was a little too much for me but not unexpected.  The socialists were on parade with their new programs of healthcare, education, and the environment; along with the direct and indirect implications of tax increases and cutting defense spending there was nothing that we have not heard the Democrats socialists speak of before.  Same story...different face.

I do continue to worry about this idea of 'urgency' and the call for 'Congress to do anything necessary' to bring an end to 'the financial crisis'.  The result of this kind of actions by Congress gets us costly junk like the TARP bill and the more recent economic stimulus package which, I'm convinced, no one in Congress has even read!  And the bailed out banks have provided no accounting as to what they've done with the TARP funds that they were provided with already.  The ONE said that 'he got it'; that Americans do not like the bail outs but he gave no indication of the practice ending in my opinion.

Naturally, the 'crisis' was blamed on the Bush Administration with repeated claims the it was 'inherited'.  That's to be expected too.

I was glad to hear that The ONE had identified $2 trillion in program spending to cut (besides the military) over the next 10 years; let's see if that really happens.

The disturbing concept of continuing broadening the economic recovery plan was (and is) vexing.  I think this will be an excuse to continue growing FedGov and continue increasing it's involvement in our lives.

But, The ONE did conclude his speech on a bit of a high note by saying we will get through this crisis and emerge 'stronger than before'.  Maybe what he meant to say was that FedGov will be stronger than before.

Just my two cent analysis anyway.

It is like asking you are you paying for your cable service with last pay period's paycheck or this current period's paycheck on a accrual basis.

Governmental accounting is a world apart from cost/business accounting. In government you have different "colors" of money and that money 'can' flow straight through to the disbursement. And it is easy to look and see where certain 'colors' of money were obligated and disbursed.

And for Congress to have committee hearings with Bank CEO's on this subject is stupid. If this Congressmen don't realize the difference in the accounting principles of government and business they need to audit an Accounting Principles 101 class. Those hearings were nothing more then a damn dog and pony show for the ignorant masses, "Look we are chasing down these evil CEOs that blew the tarp money in Vegas". Berry played some of the same tune last night.

The most basic/simplistic response which is one of the foundations of CAPITALISM, "YOU DON'T LIKE THIS PARTICULAR CORPORATION'S BUSINESS PLAN (where they send management for confereneces or their need for a fleet of executive jets) OR FINANCIAL NUMBERS.....DON'T BUY THEIR FUCKING STOCK! Thus, they will not be able to raise equity and they will disappear or CHANGE their buisness plan."

I started to watch, but I can't stand to hear the socialist prick speak.  Plus I figured it would be full of socialist drivel and the MSM would be rubbing one out and telling everyone how great it was before jizzing on the camera or feeling tingles in their loins.  I found other things to do, like clean up my iTunes library, clean up all the old files on my PC and PowerMac and watch a few episodes of NCIS that I have on the DVR.

I just can't make myself listen to him.  I couldn't stand to hear Clinton speak and this guy makes me wish Clinton was on the tube.

It sounded nice but is full of pipe dreams. One day soon he will have to either come clean about what he can actually accomplish or admit how the hell he will pay for accomplishing it all.

Nancy pelosi makes me want to vomit. I hope they remove the spring from her ass before the next speech.

Oh, yeah, THEY'RE GONNA CURE CANCER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I laughed when the spring in pelosi's ass went off on that one.

This is my fix to get around having to listen to him.  I just go to Fox, WND, American Thinker, NewsMax, or some other reliable news outlet and read up.  I have pretty much given up on watching the news.  I usually just check those sites out and Drudge and read up before I hit the bed at night or in the morning over a cup of coffee.  Of course sometimes I get just as good commentary on here.

LMAO I had the same reaction.  She was always early on the applause, especially for the standing ovations.  I just kept seeing her spring from her seat, over the desk, and end up right in between Obama and his podium, deep throating in the same manner that got her to her current position today.

I didn't bother to watch his "speech."  But I have seen snippets of it.  Enough to form a judgement.  Here's Kaos' take:

In the business world, you have the Peter-Principle, a theory that says people will rise to their level of inefficency, basically ensuring that businesses will have the least productive persons in the most critical positions.  People rarely stay where they are the most effective, they are promoted until they can no longer adequately function and there they linger.

As I've watched The One over the last few months, I've been reminded of this.  In politics it isn't exactly the same, but some of the same core principles apply.  Call it Campaignitis.

For most of the past 20 years, The One has been continually campaigning. He's gone from this position to that position, promoting himself, promising this, claiming credit for that, railing against the other.  He's never really stayed in any one position long enough to distinguish himself.  Each successive conquest only opened the door for an immediate campaign for the next target on his list.

Here The One stands today, however, with no new vistas to reach.  He's not going to be elected World Emperor.  He can't campaign for President of the UN.  The One has finally reached that plateau where he must actually produce as opposed to promise

His recent speech confirmed what I already suspected.  He has no idea how to do anything other than campaign.  Actually producing what he promises is a completely foreign concept.

Oh, but he was in the Illinois legislature for seven years, you say.  Yes, he was.  But on two separate occasions during his tenure, he spent at least 18 months preparing for and campaigning for other positions.  One he lost.

When I watch him today, it's completely apparent he's fully engaged in campaign mode, barrelling along the campaign trail slamming those evil Republicans and promising pies from the sky.

He doesn't know what he's doing.  He doesn't understand the basics of free market economics. His entire career was crafted by knocking down strawmen with pretty words and a lilting cadence.

My question is how long will the American people cheer this clown?  How long will it subsist on empty rhetoric and finger-pointing?  When the Obama 2012 campaign kicks off in about six months and he continues the only thing he has the first clue how to do, will the populace be mollified?

Just listen to any Democrat Socialist and they still think he is great.  I had two of his supporters here at work last night talk about his speech like they were mesmerized.  The MSM from what I have read today was about to cream in their pants last night as he was speaking.  I don't know how long they are going to "cheer this clown on" but I have a bad feeling that as long as the MSM keeps on pumping the "Hope and Change" it will be a long time.  The finger-pointing that he did last night will eventually be effective.  If you tell them a lie often and long enough eventually people will believe it.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

I've been working so much lately in the midst of this "worst economy since the Great Depression" that I didn't get a chance to catch any of the speeches live.  Troubling to me, I've heard some negative comments regarding the Republican Response by Gov. Jindal, but I just don't see anything really wrong with it.  It's right on.  Maybe, he didn't use as many small words and short sentences as The Obama, which risks alienating the under-educated deadbeat class in our society, but there isn't anything wrong with what he said.  He could use a little more enthusiasm and take some lessons from a Reagan speech, but I thought this was great!
