Auburn Releases Statement on Tuberville

"President Gogue, Jay Jacobs and Coach Tuberville did meet Monday to have their annual end of the season meeting. Further conversations between Jay Jacobs and Coach Tuberville will take place in the following days to discuss Coach Tuberville's plan to make improvements for the program moving forward under his leadership.

"Once those discussions are completed, I will provide you with an update."


It is also being reported that while these meetings are "on going", a team meeting has now been scheduled for 8am tomorrow morning.

One ultimatum, if I was CTT, would to tell Jacobs to STFU. If they fire CTT, which I would be very pissed off about, Jacobs would need to be fired also. Lowder's little patsy has not exactly made some of the best hiring decisions himself (Slater) and ran off some good coaches. Will Muschcamp and David Marsh sure don't think highly of him, or that is the rumors we have all hears anyway.

A wierd feeling of inevitablilty on some of the boards this morning concerning Tuberville.   Reports are now saying that the media has been invited to talk to players after the 8am meeting this morning.   By most accounts, this is just a simple post-year meeting, and sholuldn't be read into, but some of the big boy writers aren't looking at it that way.

I think if Tuberville gets past the next day or so, he's staying.   Otherwise, I think we're going to hear something very soon.

I would be shocked if he were let go. I want to see him stay because I would be nervous about who we could hire that is better than him. Tubby has always been as good as his coaches. If he can find a really good OC, Auburn will be fine!

I keep going round and round about it with myself.  A part of me says he has done some memorable things at Auburn, he also graduates players, disciplines them, and isnt an asshole. The other part says he gets paid a BOAT LOAD of money to be a football coach and that means winning games.  In my profession if I dont make my numbers I am fired..... that simple.  He needs to win games and this year didn't cut it.

My biggest worry is what War Eagle (GO Gators) said of finding the next head coach, especially with Jacobs at the helm.  Lane Kiffin was my boy...fuckin UT.

Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville said he's already narrowed his search for a new offensive coordinator and will allow the new hire to potentially bring in his own staff.

"What I want to do is I want an offensive coordinator to give him the freedom to bring in somebody if he has someone in mind," Tuberville said. "He'll probably want to visit with the ones here on the staff, which I would allow him to do."


Tuberville hired Tony Franklin last December but he was fired Oct. 8, partly due to his inability to mesh his spread passing system with the existing staff.

"You've got to make sure coaches can work with other coaches," Tuberville said. "They know that they have to have the same type of philosophy in terms of implementing things, techniques, fundamentals.

"There's a lot that goes into it. There's more than just hiring a guy and bringing him in and turning him loose. You've got to have a sense of philosophy amongst all the guys working together."

Tuberville said he still expects to have a new coordinator hired by the first week in January.

"First, what I got to do is I've got to identify four or five guys, which I'm pretty close to finishing that up, and then I'll start down the line and interview," Tuberville said. "I don't have any frontrunners or any leaders or anything like that. I want to talk to them. Then I'll have my leader in terms of who I think is the best fit after talking to four, five people.

"It's not going to happen overnight. I've told everybody, this thing's probably not going to happen until the first of the year, which is fine because in terms of recruiting we're basically done anyway."

The new coordinator will be the sixth under Tuberville in his 10-plus seasons on the Plains. But this hire may be the most important with Tuberville coming off a losing season and under increasing fire from fans and alumni.

"We want to make sure we get the right person because this is obviously huge in terms of getting a guy that comes in and is going to be here for a while and understands what we need to do with the type of players that we've got here and that we can recruit," Tuberville said.

Tuberville said he's looking for an experienced coordinator.

"I'm not into to training somebody. We're past that point," he said. "We're going to get the best coach out there that wants to come and be part of this program that can get us an offense that's consistent. We haven't had a very consistent offense in a long time and we've had some offensive coordinators come and go. And they've left for different reasons. This time we're going to get somebody that understands this program, No. 1. You have to understand your situation and what type of offense you can run with the type of players that you can get.

"We're going to be able to run it, be able to throw it and be able to, week in week out, sell young people to come in here that they can be big-play guys, which we haven't had many of and we've got to be able to do that."

Tuberville said he spoke with AU's current assistants about potential staff changes following the 36-0 loss to Alabama Saturday night.

"I talked with all of our coaches last night," he said. "They understand the situation. They understand this program and what we got to do. I think all of them have done a good job but we've got to make sure we get the program going in the right direction in terms of offense.

"Of course, right now we're all out recruiting and that's the No. 1 thing. But as we go through this process, I'll sit down with each one of them and talk about their futures, what they've done and how they've done it.

"But I don't want to put the cart in front of the horse in terms of offensive coordinators. What that does is it throws you into a sense of, in recruiting, it throws you in a jam. You want to keep guys out there recruiting because they're still employed here. We've got great coaches here, they've worked hard, they know how to coach. The main thing with them is really going to be is the situation with our coordinator."

We pretty much agree. I think he's had a change of heart after this experiment. The 10 years it takes for his assistants to be vested or whatever ends after this season. I truly think he's gonna give the next OC complete control over his entire offensive staff, and Tubs will let him shitcan whoever he wants.

Not yet.  I've heard a lot of Cincy's coach name mentioned....  I don't think anyone really knows.  Muschamp of course.....   

I think things have been a little TOO quiet on the Butch Davis front.   JMO....

Yeah, I don't think Davis will leave UNC for anything right now.  One of the "insiders" on another site hinted that Muschamp hasn't signed any contract in Austin yet...but I just don't see that either.
I would love to see what Brian Kelly could do here though.

Anyone who wants Muschamp back right now needs their head examined.  The SEC does not suffer fools.  Last time I checked folks didn't come to the SEC to cut their head coaching teeth.  That is what some other conferences are for.
