Best Christmas HORROR movies

Some people say Christmas and horror don't go together, but I say they do. Like peanut butter and marshmallows.  I love a good Christmas horror and while there was a long span where nothing good came along to fill the need, there have been several the past few years in particular that really turn it up a notch.  Here are five:

1. Black Christmas (1974)  The Saint Nick of all slasher films to follow, the same guy who gave us the classic comedy Porky's brought this murderous Christmas flick to the screen. Good cast and so many of the standard tropes that became part and parcel of Michael, Jason, and Freddy in subsequent years.

2. Krampus A fantastic mix of horror and comedy, this film comes from the same guy who helped create Trick r' Treat (one of my favorite Halloween films) and Godzilla v. Kong - maybe the best of the current iteration. Great movie. Awesome cast.

3. Violent Night Probably my current favorite. It's so well done. Outrageous violence. A touching Christmas lesson. I've watched it something like four or five times this season and will again before it's done.

4. There's Something in the Barn Follow the gnome's rules or pay the brutal price.  Features Martin Starr (the deadpan atheist from Silicon Valley and the deadpan weed purveyor from Tulsa King) and a cast of frozen Norwegianers you've never heard of.

5. Better Watch Out (2016)  Barely qualifies as a Christmas movie, but it does occur on the day of a Christmas party and the house is decorated. So that counts.  Very cute 18-year old Olivia DeJonge babysits bratty Levi Miller. He's got plans for the night.

Honorable Mention: Anna and the Apocalypse and Silent Night (2021).
