Because a clemency spree just happened. A lot of them bad bad people.

When I saw the huge number all at once, I wondered what kind of vetting process was done, because it does appear that there were some really bad apples that got their get out of jail free cards.

You know exactly what I am driving at here. Quit being obtuse. Clemency was used purposely here since it's all encompassing. Whether general clemency or specifically a full pardon, the jist of your post was a philosophical "spirit of the rule" disagreement with the entire concept at the POTUS level. The more it's done, the worse - right?

Clemency is usually granted at the request/recommendation of a 3rd party.

I don't have a problem with that, generally.

Preemptive pardoning by the POTUS is not my bag and I disagree with it, regardless of who uses it.
