I want the story behind the automobile.

My memory is that the car was Coach Beards retirement gift from the alumni/university

Carpe Diem.
The time was ripe and the move away from Birmingham served notice and created an economic boon for the Auburn program, the city and the surrounding area once Pat Dye was named Head Coach and Athletic Director. There were some investigations and findings of guilt but the die had already been cast and the wheels were in motion.

Auburn became a major player and weathered the storm which is now seen as just a blip in the hipocracy of what was the NCAA during that era.
That's not to dishonor any of the Auburn greats that preceeded Dye. He just moved Auburn out of its comfy zone.

And it got him crucified.

Moving out of Birmingham led to the witch hunt spearheaded by Arrington and his attack dog Donald Watkins.

The above photo was taken in the early fall of 72 (maybe '73)

There would be a lot to happen between this picture and Dye's arrival to claim the 80s for Auburn, there would be 2 very good seasons for Coach Jordan (72 & 74) followed by a half decade of some great players, frustrating days, 2 investigations (one started by the tennis program, Lol) Dooley's maneuvering ..... Dye broke the streak, got Bo and Auburn was off to better days

And Watkins got his in the end....anybody know where I can get some Masada stock cheap?  😎🤣🤣
