Not exactly earth shattering news, but here's the first quickie observations from al.com on the first practice of 2024. And oh by the way...the NFL Hall of Fame Game is tonight. Chicago Bears vs. Houston Texans.
Auburn football began fall camp Thursday morning, marking the start of preparation for the 2024 season.
It’s the second fall camp for head coach Hugh Freeze at Auburn, who at his pre-practice news conference said that he doesn’t want to talk about last year anymore.
Here are our observations from Auburn’s first day of practice.
The open portion of practice began with a brief walkthrough period.
Field goal scenarios were the first thing media saw. Alex McPherson was at practice in street clothes, not yet cleared to participate while dealing with a gastrointestinal illness.
As expected, Payton Thorne took the first reps at quarterback and was followed by Holden Geriner, then Hank Brown, then Walker White.
Cam Coleman, KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Robert Lewis were the first receivers with Rivaldo Fairweather at tight end
Brandon Frazier saw reps alongside Fairweather when Auburn walked through 12 personnel
Kayin Lee and Keionte Scott were the first corners with Jerrin Thompson and Caleb Wooden at safety. Hugh Freeze said he thinks Lee will be an “NFL corner.”
Gage Keys, Jayson Jones and Trill Carter saw the majority of action with the first group on the interior defensive line
Champ Anthony was the first nickel with Thompson also seeing action there
This practice was the first look at blue-chip freshman receiver Perry Thompson, who looked the part physically and moved well
