Yeah, they held the starting staff together last season with twine and chicken wire.  Fried was out a ton, while Kyle Wright basically missed the whole season.  It was a new arm up from Gwinnett every week.

Elder and the AAA dude that started a few days ago vs Houston may be the chicken wire until they can sign a SP replacement for Strider. So far so good. Thank goodness the meat of the lineup is doing what they do. Ozuna having one of his "one off" crazy years at the plate.

Not a lot of posting going on, especially from me, since I can no longer get the Braves after going with the You-Toobs.  I ain't buyin' no package either.  I switched to cut down on the bill, and I'm not going to start adding back.  I see enough highlights to wet my whistle.  Early returns:

A couple of observations.

Cubs and Cards hanging out around the .500 mark a little over 50 games in.  Braves sitting at 10 games over, but well behind the Phillies, who have gotten off to a scorching start.  Ronald Acuna Jr is gone for the season with his second ACL injury.  Already lost Spenser Strider for a year or two.

Ben Brown for the Cubs has downright filthy stuff.  He threw 7 innings of no hit ball last night, and I watched some of his outing against the Braves.  Just about unhittable.  Dud is 6'6".

I didn't even have a clue what the standings were until I checked earlier today.  I've never been so apathetic about a season in my life.  And now that Acuna is out, I'm checking out even more.

I know that a 2 weeks ago, we wanted to go to a game, and I got 5th row, on the first base side, next to the foul pole, and they were 18 each on stubhub.  The amount of people not at the game was staggering for a Saturday afternoon Cards game in May.  I think apathy has set in, because I didn't even know they had gotten back to .500 until someone told me last night.

It's just that I'm back to square one following the Braves much like you because of viewer restrictions driven by greed in the form of extortion.


Cable tv became an absolute godsend back in the day. Prior to that baseball fans in Alabama could only view a regular season game on a Saturday thanks to NBC.

I only knew the Braves through radio waves throughout the sixties and seventies. And it was not until the summer of '82 while working in Atlanta that I was able to attend a good many games.


The misdirected fairweather jab was in reply to the current season of misfortune and slight struggle along with the sheer volume of trade suggestions I read daily (by the uninitiated) as if the Braves only came into existence (with the new maffs) when they themselves discovered the game.

Since you've moved over to the YouTubez do you have a hard time remembering when and who the Braves are playing?  I honestly forgot it was the all star break last week until Buzzy was talking about the home run derby.

I follow the Braves on the bookfaces, and they post the line up every day, and usually post almost real time videos of any great plays.  Yesterday, there were no videos, so I knew they lost.  I was right.

The Braves picked it back up for a couple of series and got back to 8 over .500.  I believe that puts them first in the wildcard.

Austin Riley now pretty much out for the season.  That makes 2023 MVP, Ronald Acuna' Jr., Ozzie Albies, and now Riley useless for 2024.  Starting catcher, Sean Murphy missed about half the season along with center fielder, Michael Harris.

Tonight, against the first place Phillies, we start Whit Merrifield, Gio Urshala and Ramon Laureano.  Never heard of em'.

Just wait til 2025.

Where is Otis Nixon?  Or Rafael Ramirez?  Or Mark Lemke? Claudell Washington? Blauser?  Hubbard? Andruw? Crime Dog?

I don't know many of these guys out here.  I guess I'm a fan of the uniform.  All versions of it. 

Same with Red Sox.  I liked Papi, Manny, Damon, those guys.  Still a Sox fan (because I hate the Yankees) but not sure I could name a single current player.  That's weird.
