The New & Improved MLB Thread For 2023

Cardinals now at 81 losses.

Probably will get to 90 or 91 losses, which if they get to 91, would make this the worst Cardinal team since 1978, which lost 93.

If they somehow lose 94, it would be the worst Cardinal team in over 100 years.  But with 18 games left, they would need to lose 13 of them.

In 1995, Joe Torre was fired for having the Cardinals at 62-81.  Basically where we are today.

Come on, Oli, we're pulling for you.

Go Cubs, and Fuck Georgia.

Waino gets the win against the Os, putting him at career win count of 199.  I really just want him to get 200 and ride off into the sunset.

Hard not to root for that at this point.

How the hell you go on the road, take 2 of 3 each against the 2 best teams in baseball, but lost 2 of 3 at home to the Pirates.

And I hear ya on the Phillies.  My cold, black heart is warmed by the fact that Buzzy is rooting for the birds on the bat this weekend.

200 for Waino.

Should have no problem making the Cardinals Hall of Fame. Wouldn’t be shocked to see him get his jersey retired.

Thanks, Braves, for giving us him for JD Drew.

Cards sitting at 68-88 with 6 to play.

If we go 1-5, we will end season with 69-93, tying the 1978 team with the worst season since 1913.

If we go 2-4, we finish 70-92, tying the 1990 team with the second worst season since 1913.

I'm really hoping we just go 0-6 and beat that 78 team.

Haven't seen a game given away in a long time, quite like the Cubs did to the Braves last night.  I'll take it, but wow!

On the Braves front, I'm getting that sinking feeling about the looming playoffs.  Best record in baseball.  Will most likely earn home field advantage throughout with a couple more wins.  Setting records all over the place for home runs and run production etc.  Historical regular season in some respects.

But, the playoffs are a completely different animal.  All of a sudden, pitching takes over, and every game seems to be a 4-2 nail biter.  Guys who have 35 HR's and 100 RBI's are inexplicably 2 for 18.  And relying on pitching is unfortunately, not something the Braves have going for them.  Max Fried is on the IL, don't know if he'll be available for the first series.  Charlie Morton, same thing.  Bryce Elder...suddenly very hittable.  Spenser Strider....the one solid option, but he's been prone to 4 run innings lately.

I'm thinking we may have 162 games of, "Hell Yeah!!!".....to Pffffffffffft.

982 Division wins.  2 WS titles.

Odds are good.

982 Division wins.  2 WS titles.

Odds are good.

In the timeframe since the one in 1995, who has more though? Only a handful really.

2 or less:
Astros - 2
Braves - 2
Dodgers -1
Phillies - 1
Angels - 1
White Sox - 1
Cards - 2
Cubs - 1
Nationals - 1

That leaves the Red Sox, Yankees and Giants with more than 2 each since then.

Braves' 2 just seems to sting more since it's accompanied with the 8,000 division titles.
