End of Season Thoughts
« on: November 29, 2020, 09:29:35 AM »
Now that the season is over (yes, it is as far as I'm concerned), it's time to take stock of the good, the bad, and the ugly of Auburn football.

The Good:
- Uniforms selections are on point, logo isn't futzed with, colors look good on the players.
- There are a few bright spots on the team. Clearly, the "brand" still attracts talent to come play there. RBs and WRs come to mind. For some reason, TEs commit to Auburn.
- Against teams with lesser talent, Auburn usually wins. (South Carolina being this year's exception and there's always one it seems.)
- Kicking game (more like The Meh). Auburn usually has above average to great place kickers. Punting comes and goes as does return game. All added together, it's one of the only consistent parts of the team so it goes here.

The Bad
- There's always a lesser talented team that beats Auburn and there's always a horse hockey excuse for it.
- The offensive line. Recruiting: F Coaching: D- Instinct for the game: F- A total failure of a system. If a department in a business ran like that, everyone would be gone and it would be restructured.
- Quarterback coaching, recruiting, and development. D-. Bo Nix is the same now as he was two years ago and he'll be the same for two more years under this monkey shoot throwing show. Constantly drifts back, throws off his back foot, doesn't have the arm strength he thinks he does, read defenses poorly. Add in his attitude problems and you have a nightmare situation. But look at the room he's in as well. Not a single guy who would start OR backup on another SEC team (excluding Vanderbilt).
- Defensive balls. We have none. Unless a generational talent falls in the coaches laps, the defensive front has about as much bite as Canadian Mist neat. No team fears the Auburn defense and none should. We talk a good game but we can be coxed into giving it up just as easy as Mary Katherine Firecrotch from New Brighton.

The Ugly
- Head coach. Said yesterday and stand by it today. Gus Malzahn is the only coach who can get out-coached by a coach who isn't even at the game. He says they weren't ready in the first half. That's on him and his staff. His job is to get that staff together, get the plan together, and at least go execute it. They didn't do that. They went out there, threw some noodles at the wall and waited to see what stuck. Meanwhile, Alabama went at 3/4 speed and blew us off the field. Unacceptable. But, we are tied to this dude for at least another year if not longer.
- The Athletic Department as a whole. Corruption reeks. Scandals happen. Losses pile up. Yet the hand is always out for more $$$$$$$ so they can line the coffers and do unnecessary shoot that does not result in wins on the fields of play. Bulldoze it all and put up a parking lot since they are content to let everyone just drive over them.

Honestly there’s no need to break it down beyond the fact that everyone is saying the same things they were saying last year, the year before, the year before that etc.  He is a 4-5 loss coach every year and will be as long as he’s at the helm.  I was vehemently opposed to the RIDICULOUS extension they gave him in 2017.  But it is what it is.  He’s not going anywhere.  We will lose a minimum of 4 games again next year and we’ll be right back here saying the same things.

There is thought now that it may cost more to keep him than rid of him after about December.

Listening to ESPN radio today, and they were talking about Auburn and Gus.  Called him the "best so-so coach in the game."  And then said there are several programs who like to think they are elite, like Michigan or Nebraska, but they really aren't. And there are programs who are elite, like Alabama or Clemson.  And then programs that should be elite, programs that have showed they can beat, with consistency, elite programs, but that just have explicable losses.  And we are firmly in that category.

Guy called in, and said in no phase of the game did Auburn have better players than Alabama.  And then the host said "punter" and they all laughed.  I wanted to call him and say fuck off, but then I thought about it, and they are probably right.

This is what I’ve been saying for quite a while.  No way we could trust the PTB to make a home run hire.  They would get Loeffler or some shit.  Right now is THE time if you wanted to knock it out if the park. They won’t.

It really depends on who is Running the show over there right now and how much presssure is building. It’s a constant revolving door of politics.

If Joe Biden ends up stealing the election, do you think we could get President Trump to come down to Georgia and take over as President/Athletic director/Head of TUF?

I'd vote for that and I'm not even dead.

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America ' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.' That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.'

Or Brett Butler
At least with Rhett Butler we don't have to pay any death benefits. Of course Brett is homeless (or was) so she would be pretty cheap too.

Those rumors can only start if Gus becomes Senator from Arkansas.
