Our Pastimes Are Lost Now (Yes, this is about sports)
« on: July 24, 2020, 11:13:04 AM »
It is over. Officially over now for those who dared to hope that enjoying sporting events of any kind was something to look forward to after all the hell that has been 2020. And, it wasn't taken by COVID-19. No, it was taken by activists.

Sports are no longer the haven of respite for those weary of the world, weary from work, weary of the struggle. No more. Sports are now the fertile breeding grounds of one-sided activism with the sole mission of enforcing, insisting upon change they dictate as mandatory.

Baseball teams kneel in mass holding liturgy symbolizing change with no real plan of action other than systematic deconstruction. They paint slogans on the infield dirt and they disrespect the founding principles of this country. Basketball teams wear slogans on team jerseys loaded with ill-informed rhetoric while ignoring that a large portion of their wealth is generated by direct association with a modern group of human oppressors and overlords half a globe away. Football teams march in unison or donate insane amounts of funds to domestic terror organizations in the name of virtue signaling while preparing to lay off thousands of working people when the season is cancelled with no real plans for success. Star athletes and coaches use postgame press briefings to push distorted narratives of events to shame and browbeat those they see as persecutors.

And to what end?

Is there a place for social activism in society? Certainly. Is it activism's purpose to take over every aspect of human life and to blanch out all form of joy so that all may wallow in the muck of sorrow? Apparently so.

How did it happen? Can we ever get it back? Do we even want to bother?

No one with a level head will see their life as anything less because they don't participate in sports or sports viewing any more. But by taking it from us, these radicals have achieved another goal. If you won’t  kneel and join in the virtual signaling parade, then we will take joy from your lives piece by piece, inch by inch.

It will not end with sports. It will never be enough for these groups until this nation is reborn as another future failed state of socialism.

Just an aside....what the hell is virtue signaling?

I've always followed all the major sports, including the NBA.  No more.  James Harden showed up to their Disney Bubble dealio the other day wearing what they called a "Thin Blue Line" mask, supposedly referencing some support of law enforcement.  At least that's how it was interpreted by some.  He was ripped to shreds by his colleagues.  Drew Brees (Yes, NFL) said he will not kneel for the anthem and gave his reasons.  We all know how quickly he was beaten into submission over that one.

The Liberal way has become, you agree with me or:

1. We will shout you down.  If we can't shout or shame you down, we will:

2. "Cancel you".  Ruin you, your business, your reputation etc.  If that doesn't work, we will:

3. Beat the ever lovin' shit out of you or threaten you and/or your family and anyone associated with you.

And you're right.  People are generally scared to stand up for themselves for fear of the above.  And it's permeated throughout sports.  I agree wholeheartedly that sports should be that respite, that break from the daily grind.  That temporary haven from so many harsh realities in life.  Not anymore.  if we want to be a part of it, we have to accept having a false narrative shoved down our throats.  And we have to act like we love it, lest we be canceled.

I’m not a liberal but number 3 is exactly the way I feel about you. Not your family but definitely you. No doubt. I promise. It would happen.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

I was already done with the NFL and the NBA. This new batch of kneelers in the MLB have me writing them off for good too. If Auburn pulls some of the shit, I’m out.

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. We already have.

I’m out.  100%.

I’m riding my closet of my Red Sox and Braves gear, and my Auburn shirts, hats, jackets.  Took the AU tag off my truck last week.  When I renew my license plate I won’t get the AU one for the first time since those things existed.

NFL, NBA, MLB, NCAA.  I’m eradicating all of it from my life.

This is some of the whiniest shit I've ever read.

Make the first few minutes of the pregame your designated deuce-dropping time if you want to miss the egregious spectacle of kneeling.

I don’t know.  Saying you won’t support something with money or your time doesn’t really seem whiney too me.

Taking too all forms of social media and sports networks to berate a man who says he believes in standing during the national anthem  and demanding that he offer an apology for hurting feelings seems much more like whining.

Personally I’ve deleted all social media apps, had cable turned off and spent a decent amount of money on a mountain bike, kayak, fishing and camping equipment. It’s been very peaceful so far and I’m looking forward to fall outdoors when it’s much cooler in the mornings.

Seems more like straight up bullying to me.  And if I have learned anything over the last few years it's that bullying is bad.

I have enjoyed and looked forward to each and every season of Auburn football (no matter how dire the prognostications)...I'm not letting some performative bullshit in the pregame (when I'm not paying attention anyway) kill that for me.  Hell, I'm not letting anything that happens outside of 15:00Q1 and 00:00 take that from me*.

I mean this sincerely when I say I HOPE I can get that desire back.

It’s not just the pregame that’s driven me away though. I’ve put pregame antics away for some time now so I could get back to enjoying fantasy football. It’s much larger than pregame for me. It’s people being torn apart for supporting the national anthem. It’s players threatening to transfer because of a damn NEWS NETWORK tee shirt.

I just want things in the actual sporting event world to get back to normal and I just don’t see it happening.

This isn't a liberal issue. Liberals are people whom I have some philosophical differences with but we can live, work, and discuss these civilly.

Leftists demand you bow to their will, kiss the ring of intersectionality, or gtfo. That's exactly what's happened to sports. Leftists took over.
