Since Auburn's season is a trash can fire on the corner of Rocky's apartment and the church he swings by on the way to a fight, I figured I'd toss this out there.
It appears Kansas AD Jeff Long is going after Les Miles to resurrect the Jayhawks of the gridiron.
I think it's a mistake.
1) Les has been out of coaching for three years and A LOT has changed in that time. Moreover, the last gig he had went south because he refused to adapt and was intent that Michigan single wing smashmouth football would still win big.
b) Kansas is never going to be elite but they can be competitive. How were they before? They ran an offense that, at the time, wasn't something other teams dealt in and it created match up advantages. Since then, the Big 12 is all in on air raid, spread option, multiple, high-speed score machines. Not saying they need to run the triple option or wishbone or A11 offense, but Kansas needs to find a wrinkle they can operate from and create a sense of "fun" there because it's the only way they are going to get a couple of playmakers to consider spending any time in Lawrence to try and do something on the football field. Les is not a guy for innovation.
III) They need to take a long look in the mirror and ask what they really want and expect as a program. From my point of view, they should approach this they way Iowa does in terms of expectation.
What do you think?
