Both Malzahn and Allen Green have expressed interest in moving the FUGA game to earlier in the schedule to give some "breathing room", according to Green, between that game and the Iron Bowl. FUGA's AD chimed in, saying they're open to it. Whatcha' thank, Paawwwl? Would any of you be in favor of moving it? It's been in that slot as long as I can remember and yes, I'm a big fan of tradition. Personally, I don't see the need. What additional breathing room do you need when part of the tradition is playing a cupcake in between FUGA and the Iron Bowl? My only suggestion would be to do what FUGA had to do when they came to the Planes 2 years in a row. I'd go 2 in a row to that shit hole, Athens, to keep that game and the Iron Bowl not as away games every other year.
Second, just a quick mention of the playoff system. I've long advocated for 8 teams. I won't go into reasons or how to pick the 8. Use the old computer rankings. Use the committee. Let writers and coaches vote. I don't care. Whatever. But what I would also advocate for is go to 8 teams and do away with the stupid conference championship games. Just go right into the playoffs. Let's say the season ended today with the current playoff rankings. You'd start with a weekend of:
Washington State vs. Bama
Clemson vs. LSU (Who has no business in the top 8)
Notre Dame vs. Oklahoma
Michigan vs. FUGA
I believe I'd load up a Yeti full of beer, put out the snacks and cook some kind of meat low and slow on the Big Green Egg and get ready for some football.
What say you?
