Week Three Afterthoughts: Inconvenient Football Musings
« on: September 16, 2018, 07:33:09 AM »
Auburn
Pretty clear that in big games when expectations are on his side, Gus tightens up, his staff tightens up, and his players tighten up and the engine locks. If the hype had been on the other side, Auburn would have won by two scores or more. He's a quality coach, for sure, probably overpaid but aren't they all? He is not a championship-level coach. 2013 is the closest Auburn is going to get to a title under this regime.

Rest of SEC
Alabama and Georgia (fudge Georgia!) are on a different level. You are going to hate reading that and I hate typing it, but it's true - it's damn true. Yeah, yeah, best teams money can buy...we are all buying these guys. They do things with them no one else does. Proof is on the field and the scoreboard. Arkansas is trash. TAMU is inconsistent. Ole Miss has a QB and WRs but not much else. MS State has some talent (for them) but still aren't all that good. Florida is garbage. Tennessee is real garbage. Kentucky is taking advantage of those previous two teams being down a step. South Carolina is what they always are - just kind of there. Vanderbilt is plucky, but not very good. Missouri is all flash no bang.

ACC
It's Clemson and a bunch of upper-level CUSA teams.

BIG TEN
Outside of Ohio State, there's not much top level here. Just a lot of mediocre football teams.

BIG 12
Outside of Oklahoma, not sure there's much here either. Yeah, West Virginia. Talk to me about the couch burners when they beat a good team. (And Tennessee is not a good team just because they got one of Bama's coaches.)

PAC 12
Washington is a tough team but they have flaws and probably won't survive the schedule to make the playoffs. Stanford is not that good but not bad either. Just not special there in Palo Alto. Oregon is okay. USC is meh. Utah is Utah. And the rest are forgettable.

Agree on Gus. He’s a 7-5/8-4 type coach, who will have an occasional 10 win season. No point bitching about this loss, we saw the exact same type of loss in 2014, 2015, 2016.

And we are stuck with him for at least 4 seasons.

Just don’t fool yourself into thinking we lost to a good team.

We lost to a caveman and a third rate QB.

It was humiliating.  And I’m sick to death of that garbage.

You forgot about their offensive coordinator who couldn’t run a successful offense with Ronnie Brown, Carnell Williams, and Jason Campbell, was leaps and bounds better than our offensive genius.

Because he had a plan and stuck to it instead of being stuck to the same 8-11 plays no matter who is on the field. That's the difference.

Yep.  Clowned us.  Stidham has regressed.  Why would any legitimate quarterback want to be a part of that cluster fuck?

Losing happens.  Losing to inferior teams and getting dick punched in the process cannot for $49 million.  That’s what I hate about Alabama.  They are consistent.  Always prepared.  How can that be so difficult?  I swear, Prowler and I could have done a better job with that yesterday. A dead monkey could have generated 31 - 40 points with what was there.

Dammit to hell im sick of this.

On another note.  I went to the south Alabama game after our shit show ended.  They were begging the city of Mobile for $10 million to help fund a $72 million on-campus facility. Why?  There were MAYBE 15,000 people there.  42 cheerleaders, so every 1500 or so had their own personal cheer director. Like AU they blasted snippets of shitty rap music after every play.  And yet the audience was 90% older white people.  If they aren’t coming to see the shitty barely above high school level games now how is a $72 mil boondoggle going to change that?

We can expect this for the rest of his time on the plains. We’ll win 7 or 8 games every year maybe beat Bama every few years. Auburn is a basketball school now see y’all in October.

20 points looks like our ceiling against relatively good teams. Our offensive line is subpar and our corners mug receivers both of which lead to 100+ yards in penalties.
Right now I say we lose to State, TAMU, Fuck Georgia and the Turds.

Did I leave anyone out?

That^^^.

I give credit when due. 3 of the playoff teams from last year - uga, bammer and Oklahoma. No shame losing to them. They were and are good teams. ESP Oklahoma right at end of year. But LSU has an nfl caliber defense and not much else. Their coaches are morons. Their oline was luke warm. Rbs not impressive. Wrs avg. Their qb was mediocre at best. We made his ass look good. Even then his stat line was horrible. Dude completes 40% of his passes.

Ill say this: the pass interference/holds on long passes were suspect. Not consistent with the no calls on the LSU secondary. It kept 3 drives alive that would have been a punt or turnover on downs. That said - it shouldn’t have come to that. Up 21-10 in command, with ball and momentum? Yeah that’s inexcusable. And two years in a row.

Honestly thought 20-21 points would win this game. It was the 22 we gave up that surprised me. Some of it due to suspect PI calls. Some of it due to suspect dB play mainly by Jamel dean.

#1 reason for the loss:  Refs.

#B:  Front 7 sucked ass.  Never got near Burrow all day.

#3:  Refs

D: Unimaginative play calling.  1 running play in the playbook and 3 total pass routes.

Next:  Malzahn should have taken one for the team and got hisself throwed out.  Sorry, but Saban would have had those motherfuckers apologizing and buying him drinks by half time.

Exhibit 1, Your Honor:

The play calling was unimaginative almost as if it was planned ahead for our offense to live and die by a few base plays. Maybe the idiot chose this game to hone the incredible skills of our offensive linemen. Coaches do that you know albeit in middle school.
We gonna run it right at 'em till we get it right.

I see the bad call but we have sat on a lead against LSU two years running.

Know our best defender Williams is INJURED and we might have brought a safety a few times but we can't cover anyone so there's that.

Who the hell are we going to beat out of the SEC this year? Arkansas and UT probably, but who knows about UT? Gus gave Kirby his first signature win he may gift one to Pruitt too.

MSU, UM, and TAMU are toss ups.  And I would pick MSU over us right now.

I don’t have much hope for the next 3 years. I will keep saying that each year we keep Gus, player development and recruiting lacks in certain areas, the program will be set back another year.

Look, if the refs get their collective heads out of their asses, we're sitting at #5 and talking about barbecuing some Hawg this week.  These were two pretty evenly matched teams and despite the unimaginative play calling, we had that game snatched from us.  Plain and simple.

Here's the thing for me with Gus.  Our talent is on par with anyone in the country except maybe Alabama.  Sorry, but those guys have been stockpiling/buying 5 stars at every position for years and years.  What it comes down to in those match ups is usually coaching.  Last year, Gus' staff was on a roll and outcoached and outplayed both Fuck Georgia and Alabama.  But 90% of the time, Alabama is just plain going to be more physical, faster and more talented than everyone they play.  Did anyone watch them against the Land Shark Bears last night?  Granted and as I said earlier, Ole Miss is fucking putrid on defense.  Historically bad.  But Bama was toying with them on every single play.

We can't do that.  Our talent is top 10 level.  But we have to have everything go right to beat the LSU's, Fuck Georgia's and Bama's of the world.  Our game plan/play calling has to be spot on.  We have to be injury free and our players execute at a high level to win against good teams.  We did that yesterday. Not great, but give LSU a little credit. The refs bent us over and went in dry.  Think about how many times you said, "Well damn, LSU shouldn't even have the ball right now."  It wasn't just one or two times.  It was over and over and over.  We played well enough to win and got fucked.  No...it would not have been a pretty win. But, we'd be on here talking some shit and feeling pretty good about ourselves with a 21-19 win over #12 and a close win over #6.  But no, we're wondering if we'll win another game.

Bullshit.  We're number 10 in the country with Arkansas coming to town.  Let's roll those bitches and get back on track.

The real reason why we lost...the fuckin field goal snapper. He snaps it better, ball gets placed on time and spun correctly, Carlson doesn't kick the ball on the laces...FG Good Auburn wins that game.

Other inconvenient football musings.

Wisconsin got beat by a bunch of 27 year old Mormons.  Michigan State got handled last weekend by the Fighting Herms.  BTW, MSU had 18 starters back off a 10 win team.  Notre Dame squeaked by the worst team in the SEC at home by 5 points.  The Men of Troy went out to Lincoln and stolt some lunch money from the Huskers.  (Why we refuse to play Troy, I'll never know.) The Florida State Semen Holes are 1-2 with the lone victory being a come back win over Samford.  Not Stanford....Samford...as in the Ham.  Syracuse fucking owned that ass yesterday.  #7 Auburn lost by 1 point on a last second field goal to the number 12 team, after getting skull fucked by the refs.

Bottom line, it's wide open.  We have a couple of games coming up where we can get our shit on a roll.  Like always, we had an early season hiccup (Fuck the refs...Fuck Georgia).  But now is when we normally get our roll on.  Boobie goes 167 against Arky.  I'm starting a new Hottie thread.  You fuckers failed to participate in the LSU thread and cost us the game.  Get your shit together, X.
