So last night, I came across Training Days, which was an all access dealio on the Tahd. I guess it was just curiosity but I actually watched about 45 minutes of it. About half of it was nausea filled fawning over how rich Lord Saybinz is, while the other was fairly entertaining with the interaction between the players. The part I came in on was where Lord Saybinz apparently hosts the incoming freshmen for a get together every year at his lake house before fall camp starts. Of course you saw the $11 million lake house and all the toys. But the players tubing and busting their asses was pretty funny.
They showed LS's welcome back speech to all the players and the theme was knowing what your breaking point is. To illustrate that point, he used the analogy of him picking out hurricane windows for his beach house and knowing which ones have the strongest breaking point. Then, they followed him through a charity event he and the wife put on for jacked up kids or some shit. Didn't really talk that much about who the kids were or how they were helped, but he made sure to let everyone know that they give half a million to it every year.
One segment was the coaches meeting. There must have been 30 coaches and various personnel in the room with Lord Saybinz rocking back and forth on his throne, while berating a couple of them for not having their group prepared to run a drill at practice. Aiight?
Another piece was the weight room. What I got out of that was that Scott Cochran is exactly what my buddy said he is. A meat head. Doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground and is nothing more than a cheerleader. I could take about 3 minutes of that gravel-voiced goon.
I know all that above sounds negative, and certainly I was looking at everything through very cynical eyes. But I love those all access shows and as I said, I was curious to take a look inside that program. There were parts that were funny as hell, especially some of the back and forth between the players. I'm sure it's this way at Auburn and just about every major program, but that's a well-oiled machine that has all the backing and $$$ you could ever want. Worth a look if you stomach you some Saybinz.
