I was wrong...no hope for the future.

Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville reiterated Sunday that Tony Franklin will continue to coordinate his offense, and no one is going to panic over a struggling unit that failed to produce in Saturday's 14-13 loss to Vanderbilt.

That said, Tuberville conceded that, ``The offense is behind where it needs to be. We've got to find some answers.''

Tuberville said the offensive coaches are working to figure out the next step.

``We've just got to look ourselves in the eye...and score more points,'' he said.

Auburn has fallen to 104th in the nation in total offense.

The Tigers were sharp in the first quarter against Vandy, but gained just 82 yards over the final three quarters.

``I thought the game plan was good. We came out scoring...but something happen in the second quarter. I thought the plan was good, but we've got to find a way to finish.''

Other highlights from Tuberville's media chat:

On the spread offense:

``It's going to get better.'' And... ``You've got to be able to throw the football.''

Auburn actually ran little of the true spread during stretches of the game.

Tuberville said Franklin is the ``one changing it. A good coach is going to change for personnel.''

``I think Tony's done a good job of adjusting. I don't know whether we've done a good job of adjusting to what we've gone to. But, he's our offensive coordinator. He's worked harder than anybody here, and he's as disappointed as anybody here. And he takes as much of the blame. He probably takes more blame than he should.''

On the offensive coaching staff:

``Everybody is fine. Everybody is in the same roles. That's not our problem right now.''

On possible problems:

``Most of that talk is Internet talk.''

On quarterback Kodi Burns:

``Some things he did well. Some things he didn't. But that was everybody on the team.''

On the QB play of Burns and Chris Todd:

``We have to improve at the quarterback position for us to win games the rest of the season.''

On possible changes:

``We started the morning at daylight, not just looking at this film, but every film.''

The changes could include ``moving players around.''

``We're still searching,'' he said.

On moving away from the successful first-quarter running game:

``In hindsight, we probably could have done it a little more in the second half.''

On injuries:

Defensive lineman Sen'Derrick Marks (ankle): X-rays were negative.

Defensive back Jerraud Powers (hamstring): Day-to-day. ``He's a little sore. Not real bad.'' Tuberville said.

Tailback Brad Lester (knee): He ran it twice, ``but he wasn't the same Lester.''

Robert Dunn (ankle): ``Hopefully, he'll practice this week.''

Linebacker Craig Stevens (turf toe): Lingering injury.

Defensive end Antonio Coleman: Pulled muscle in the back of a leg.

I give up trying to make any sense of this at all...

In his first news conference as AUBURN'S head coach in 1981, Pat Dye was asked this question:  "How long will it take you to beat Alabama"?  To which he responded, "Oh, about 60 minutes".

We have played 3 teams this year where 2 qbs have played against our defense. I can somewhat understand why LSU has 2 quarterbacks better than anyone we have, but I don't understand why Southern Miss or Vandy BOTH have 2 quarterbacks that are better than anything we can field. How is that possible?

This question is very prevalent for this year, especailly because some of our bigger, multi-star offensive recruits just haven't been producing.  I just haven't been able to get excited about Auburn's offensive recruiting, both previously and presently.   Raymond Cotton looks strong, but that's all I got.

Yes, Franklin's an idiot, we can all agree.  But to play the devil's advocate:

Franklin seems to be honest.  He understands that he's a buffoon, and has been quoted as as saying so.."I'm an idiot...I'm not getting the job done"...  etc. etc., we've all heard the excuses truth.  He's also been quoted as alluding to the fact that the talent in the wide receiver corps is not as great as what he's used to.  And I can believe this, based on his previous honesty and after watching our offensive production this year.

So...we have a couple of quarterbacks who suck, for the most part, at airing it out.  But I also noticed that in recent games, Todd has been checking each receiver off  before taking a sack or tossing it out of bounds.   THE COVERAGE ON OUR RECEIVERS IS TOO GREAT, BECAUSE I BELIEVE THEY'RE NOT AS SKILLED AS THEY SHOULD BE.  Yes, our QB's suck and the playcalling is atrocious, but the chances for completions aren't presenting themselves like they should.   Once Phillip Pierre-Louis went down for the season we were fucked because we put all our eggs in his basket.  No disrespect to leading receiver Rod Smith, but he has 19 receptions for 184 yards.  184 YARDS.  This is pathetic in a spread offense after 6 games.

Now, this offensive debacle has further hurt our chances to recruit strong for future offenses.  Shitty quarterbacks and shitty receivers = fucked up future.

Thank god we can still run the ball, although only apparently for one half of a game.

From Tubs today....

"We got better on offense yesterday."

"...I think Tony's done a good job of adjusting."

"We're slowly moving in the direction that we want to move in, in terms of using the guys that we have the best way we can."

"There's no panic."

The man believes the media and the fans are morons.  His typical coach-speak has grown awfully tired.  How big is his buyout?  Honestly, the way he's spoken to the media the past few years, I wouldn't doubt if he just doesn't give a shit anymore.  He has his kids in a good school, and he's comfortably rich.

"We got better on offense yesterday."     Yes, during the first half.

"...I think Tony's done a good job of adjusting." Yes, he hasn't had a meltdown or committed suicide yet

"We're slowly moving in the direction that we want to move in, in terms of using the guys that we have the best way we can." Again, referencing the kind of football we are supposed to be fucking playing, run it down their throats pound 'em up football, which we accomplished in the first half

"There's no panic."  Tommy knows he's bullshitting here

I'll give you one guess to whom said these keen and incisive quotes.

So he's not lying completely.

My gasket has blown on this board because I'm sick and tired of seeing what I've been seeing.  But it's too early to talk about firing or buying out  the Head Coach.  Our University doesn't need another Petrinogate.   Internal adjustments can be made at  this point, but the aftershock (in a morale sense) of post-Tuberville mid-season would be more destructive than beneficial.
