I know that right now, the Person thing is a basketball matter. But, I'm putting this here anyway because I am going to make a football reference. And if the mods move it, bitches will be cut and blood will be on the floor.
Let me get to the point. Why is what Person did illegal? I've read up on RICO Statutes, Racketeering, Bribery etc. What am I missing? Is it like the other night when I was talking to my Pops about some dates we were going to be out of town and I said let me go get my phone and I'll pull up my calendar, only to finally realize the phone I was searching for was against my ear? Yeah, I did that.
Is it so simple that I'm looking right past it? He's charged with what, bribery and corruption? So, who did he bribe? Where's the corruption? Again, tell me if I'm missing something here. My understanding is that Person was paid money by an agent/financial advisor whatever it was, to steer Auburn players with NBA potential to their firm. He's also accused of giving cash to the mother/parents of said potential NBA players, most likely to help move that process along.
Okay, where's the bribery? Where's the corruption? Violations of NCAA policy? Absolutely! Tax evasion? Yeah, probably so. I doubt anybody is reporting that money. But the question remains. How does any of that fall within the realm of what he's charged with?
Now the football reference to keep it in this forum. I didn't get the Logan Young thing anymore than I do the current dealio. Young paid a high school coach $150K to make sure that coach pimped the hell out of Alabama and hopefully get him to sign there. Again, tax issues? For sure. Where is the Federal Crime? He was charged under RICO Statutes, but maybe I've been too lazy to read enough in the case law to find out how far reaching they are.
Are they all NCAA violations? Yep, I get that. And I'm not trying to lessen what Person did with regard to our program. We fucked and they ain't no gittin' around it. But I'm still trying to tie all this in with bribery and corruption. Somebody school a lawyer.
