Vetting in the White House...
« on: March 23, 2017, 10:10:54 PM »
I know we've touched on this subject earlier, in my opinion and likley others here, vetting should be extremely thorough and taken very serious, especially when we're talking about the White House.

White House Secretary Sean Spicer was asked, what should've been, a very easy question by NBC's Peter Alexander.

"Can you say for certainty that, right now, there’s nobody working for this White House that is presently working in the interest of a foreign government?" - Alexander

"I can tell you that every form has been filled out. That..." - Spicer

"So, you trust?" - Alexander

"Absolutely. You’ve got to...people are filling out forms, so to sit here and ask me whether I can vouch for, whatever it is, a few hundred people, that have filled out everything, you know, that would be ridiculous to stand here and suggest that I possibly could." - Spicer

Nahhh, a foreign agent would never lie on his or her forms...

Oh btw, this presser came after the Paul Manafort (former Trump Campaign manager) reveal that he was paid $10M to work with the Russians, about 10 years ago, to help Russian interests around the World.

Just as long as you fill out the paper work and check the box "I AM NOT A FOREIGN AGENT" you'll be fine...possibly free to look at top secret intel., because this administration apparently wouldn't know one way or the other.

Yes.  That's what we need in this country.  The government to come to a complete stand still while we fill out all the paperwork and wait for the congress to spend 3 fucking days talking about something that someone might or might not have said in 1985.

That's exactly what we need.

To run a campaign for a Russian backed candidate in another country (formerly part of the Soviet Union)...but facts.

You do know the sole purpose Manafort was hired by the trump campaign was to delegate rangle in the event of a contested convention with Cruz and Kasich? When it was evident that wasn't going to be needed, he was sent packing.

While he was living out repressed young boy fantasies by jerking off to Rachel Maddow she didn't mention that part.  So no. He was unaware.

You do realize that we have a vetting system in place for that. We've had it for over 3 decades, it's not foil proof, but it is there. Don't let Fox "news" corrupt your mind.

So can we trust people to fill out forms or no?
No.
Here's our vetting process that we currently have in place (the President's vetting of his cabinet is much, much quicker but should still include proper background checks).

Quote
First, most applicants apply for refuge through the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, or UNHCR. The office then forwards some applications to the U.S. State Department, which prepares these applications for adjudication by Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Once an applicant is referred to the State Department, biometric and biographic checks are done against various U.S. security databases at multiple points throughout the process.

Multiple agencies systems and databases are incorporated in this process, including:

The State Department

-Consular Lookout and Support System

-Consular Consolidated Database

-Department of Homeland Security

-TECS (a DHS security system)

-DHS Automated Biometric Identification System

National Counterterrorism Center/FBI's Terrorist Screening Center

-Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment

-Terrorist Screening Database

Federal Bureau of Investigation

-Extracts of the National Crime Information Center's Wanted Persons File, Immigration Violator File, Foreign Fugitive File, Violent Gang and Terrorist Organization File (and the Interstate Identification Index)

-Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System / Next Generation Identification

Interpol

Drug Enforcement Administration

Department of Defense

-Automated Biometric Identification System

In addition, the refugee process requires a security advisory opinion to be completed by the FBI and the intelligence community on many refugee applicants who are considered higher risk. Similarly, interagency checks are constantly being done in connection with a wide range of U.S. agencies.

In additional to these background checks, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services conducts a refugee interview. These interviews cover everything from refugee and immigration matters to security and country specific questions.

For example, Syrian refugee officers must undergo a one week training course on Syria-specific issues, including classified information. Additional scrutiny is already being applied to Syrians through the enhanced review for Syrian applicants process that puts additional security and intelligence resources at the disposal of adjudicators.

Only at this point can an application be approved. For those that are approved, health screenings and orientations begin. The State Department and Office of Refugee Resettlement within the Department of Health and Human Services work with voluntary resettlement agencies to arrange for resettlement services and assistance.

After an average of 12-18 months, this process ends with entry into the U.S. According to the Department of Homeland Security, of the approximately 23,000 Syrian referrals made by the U.N. High Commissioner on Refugees to the U.S., only about 2,000 have been accepted.
