I imagine their short list includes Harley Petrino, Tom Herman, Art Briles and Nick Saban.

Some things to ponder from this.

What if the play had counted?  Is Auburn helping Gus pack up his office while Les lives to fight another day?

I hope Gus was watching. Les stubbornly stuck with Cam Cameron (Rhett Lashlee) and so desperately wanted Brandon Harris (Jeremy Johnson) to be the guy that he cost himself his job.

Within 15 minutes of the announcement I had texts from two Bama fan quasi friends claiming "Nick done processed him another one."  Their hypothesis is that LSU's overwhelming desire to be Bama is the reason they cut Miles loose.

Who the hell does LSU think they are?  For most of my lifetime they were a moderately decent team, but no big deal at all.

Charlie McClendon took the team over in 1962.  In 17 years he won the SEC once. Finished second twice.  Over his last six seasons he won five games twice, seven games twice and eight games twice. Never higher than third, as low as ninth in the SEC.

He was followed by Jerry Stovall who went four years and won as many as eight games just once.

Bill Arnsparger was there three years, did well, won the SEC for the first time in like 16 years and then quit to be AD at Florida.

Enter Mike Archer.  Ten wins his first year, then eight, then four then five.  See ya.

Curley Hallman was there four years and never won more than five games in a season.

Gerry Dinardo was next.  After posting one ten-win season he tanked, winning four and three games his last two.

Next was the cheating motherfucker Nick Saban.  LSU, for the first time since 1962 -- 40 fucking years -- was relevant for more than a blip.

Les comes along.  Never had a losing season.  Double digit wins seven out of his 12 seasons through 2015.  Fewest wins over that span is eight.  Won nine last year and they wanted to boot him then.
Wins the SEC twice thereby matching the output of every coach since 1962 combined (minus Saban).

LSU.  I have a question for you.  Who the fuck do you think you are?  Les Miles is the winningest coach in your modern history.  His .778 winning percentage is higher than any coach except a few dingleberries nobody's ever heard of from the late 1800s and early 1900s.  His winning percentage is better than Saban's.

Who do you think you are, really?

I think you're about to fucking find out.

Great post. Would love to drop that on some LSU site; however, I've seriously softened my stance on the LSU fan base. In the 80's and 90's, they were irrelevant, but the most belligerent, obnoxious fan base on earth.  After numerous parties and interactions, including this weekend on the Planes since then with their fans, I get it.

BTW...I had a GREAT time this weekend in AU.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

If you heard Les Miles' interview on the dan Patrick show you will understand my respect for the guy.

I'd be proud to have him represrnt Auburn the way he does LSU.

Nothing but class.

If you heard Les Miles' interview on the dan Patrick show you will understand my respect for the guy.

I'd be proud to have him represrnt Auburn the way he does LSU.

Nothing but class.

The former LSU coach, who was fired Sunday after his team got off to a disappointing 2-2 start, made that clear Monday on Dan Patrick's radio show in his first public comments since his dismissal.

"I don't golf," Miles told Patrick. "I play no tennis. I enjoy shooting the gun; I don't necessarily like to point it at animals. I play cards, not very well. But what I have done for probably 12 to 14 hours a day for the last number of years is coach football. So I would have a difficult time not being involved in the game and not being a coach."

Miles boasts the highest winning percentage in modern-day LSU history (.770) and sits second on the school's all-time wins list with a record of 114-34. In his 11-plus seasons in the SEC, Miles' teams claimed a 2007 BCS championship, played for another national title in 2011 and won three conference titles.

However, the program has not lived up to its lofty expectations in recent years. The 2016 squad was a preseason top-10 team, but LSU fell out of the national polls after Saturday's 18-13 loss to Auburn dropped the Tigers to 2-2.

Miles, who will turn 63 in November, said LSU athletic director Joe Alleva informed him of his firing at a face-to-face meeting Sunday. Miles said he did not fight the decision to end his LSU run in its 12th season.

"It was beyond fighting," Miles said. "The enjoyment of being here, the enjoyment of the community, the experiences that my family's had, it's too important to me to fight over. It's history. It's what we are. If they see that a change makes the Tigers better, then I am for them."

Although Miles said a "cultural divide" within LSU's athletic department led to his exit -- school power brokers almost fired him in November in a highly public tug-of-war -- he thanked Alleva for the opportunity to address the Tigers at a team meeting Sunday.

"I recognize in those decisions so many times, you can see where it's not necessary that the ex-head coach says goodbye," Miles said. "But they gave me that opportunity, and I took advantage of it and did not stay long, but wished them well. They deserve the best. I think Ed Orgeron will do a great job for them, and I exited about as fast as I could."

Not so sure about the 2016 version, but I would have loved to have the guy coaching here a few years ago.  The guy is a real class act.
