Would love to JJ win the job and have the season everyone was expecting last year. However several people are starting to speculate White will be named the starter by the end of the week.

As it would be a great story, I just did not see anything from last season to lead me to believe there is a miracle comeback in there.

You are beginning to be as negative as kaos or snags. It's contagious, I guess.

If you would've just opened your eyes last season, there were numerous games in which JJ looked very promising in warm ups.

Maybe JJ can have a similar senior-season redemption like Ben Leard, or even Chris Todd
(maybe even Jason Campbell, although he was never as bad as it might have seemed)

With all of those guys, you saw a bit of progress. With JJ, it just never happened. It was a total meltdown.

It was sad to watch. I had great hopes that we would see a balanced attack with Duke dominating the middle of the field.

JJ actually did have a few "so close" moments last year. He was so close to looking like Clint Mosely that it was remarkable.

Okay, I'ma throw some numbers and opinion in the mix.  We have 3 QB's to choose from.  I'll take Clifford Franklin out of the equation for this discussion for now, because we have absolutely zero to go on other than he's small, fast and 2nd string in JUCO.  So we look at Jeremy Johnson and Sean White.  As fans, what do we have to go on?  For most, it's the eye test.  The overwhelming majority of fans and analysts have long since written JJ off based on Heisman hype coming into 2015, with the product on the field looking more like an overwhelmed freshman.  At least, early on.

Redshirt Frosh, Sean White, came in with a good bit of recruiting hype, having won the Elite 11 Competition, and took over for JJ when the wheels fell off early.  At the end of the day, it's hard to distinguish between coulda', shoulda', woulda' and real time numbers.  White got injured a couple of games in before we could really get a feel for what he was capable of.  The road game at Arkansas was a contest that could have set the stage for a dramatic turn around.  A minimum of 10 dropped passes in crucial situations resulted in an overtime loss, followed by an injury to White that effectively ended his season.

So what do we have to go on?  Last year's numbers look like this:

Jeremy Johnson

12 Games Played  95-157  10 TD's  7 Int's.  60.5% 87.8 yds p/game

Rushing:  47 attempts 238 yds.

Sean White

7 Games Played  83-143  1 TD  4 Int's  58%  167 yds p/game

Rushing:  30-116

So coming down the last part of the season, with White gimping, JJ was 3-2 against Texas A&M, UGA, Idaho, Bama and Memphis (White started against Memphis but sucked royally)  His (JJ's) numbers were:

51-82  537 yds.  5TD's  1 Int.

I say all this not to promote one over the other. If it were me, I'd prefer White to perform better and win the job simply from the standpoint of him still having 3 years at the helm, while JJ is moving on after this year.  But....I do caution against writing Johnson off.  He wasn't great down the stretch, but he was solid and efficient.  What if he's taken the last few months to dedicate himself to going out on top, so to speak?

We'll know soon enough. I think by this weekend, we're going to know who will take the snaps against Clemson.

Thoughts?

Wasn't that the LSU game? That was a doomsday from the start. JJ had his comeback kid moment at the Texas A&M game. And to his credit he's never been a dick about the ups and downs of last year. We sure don't have video of him fussing about bad play calling on sidelines (even if some of that would have been warranted last year).

Johnson threw a backward pass.

White will be our starter, I'm 80% sure. I will be pleased to see this, however, I am still concerned about his ability to run. Hopefully, we won't be asking him to run the same o as Nick. He'll need more play action and roll outs I believe. And he's too short to stay in the pocket. Hell of a lot of balls batted down last year.

I think a healthy white boy will win us a lot of games this year. No question we'll mix in the mildcat but I actually think Kerryon can be effective with it and it will be warranted (unlike running it when we had Cam).

I think White gets the nod by the end of the week.

Watching Sean White in practice as a true freshman, I compared him to Aaron Murray.  Same size.  Same build. And given time, they both throw a beautiful pass.   Think about 09'.  Todd wasn't big or fast but he was accurate as hell.  I think White brings both attributes of passing accuracy and an ability to run the option or take off when he needs to.  But again, don't sell JJ short in both areas.
