Offensive Tweaks

Quote
When something doesn't work, you go back to the drawing board and come up with Plan B.

That's what Auburn offensive coordinator Tony Franklin is doing this week after his plan to alternate quarterbacks Kodi Burns and Chris Todd each series against Louisiana-Monroe failed.

"Probably the biggest thing is just that neither one got in a rhythm," Franklin said. "That's my fault, the way I alternated them series to series.

"We're going to play them both again. I'll probably have a different way of rotating them. If one guy goes well, then he may stay in forever."

Burns and Todd combined to complete 13-of-27 passes (48 percent) for only 85 yards against the Warhawks.

Franklin said he should have known better than to try the rotation in the first place.

"I've always said you're stupid if you did it," Franklin said. "It's funny the way the world works. One day, it'll come back to you.

"It's a tough deal because they're both really good players. Somewhere along the way, one of them probably will have to play more than the other. This week, we'll have to see how it goes."

Franklin said it appeared that the rotation combined with first-game jitters were the biggest issues with the quarterbacks.

"I think they got tense and tight," Franklin said. "It's hard, I don't care who you are, when you come out in your first game and you know you're not going to be in the next time, you're probably concerned about the reps and stuff and making a mistake -- wondering if that's your last one.

"I have to do a better job."

After leaving the game in the third quarter with a 7-inch laceration on his shin, Burns appears to be healing well according to head coach Tommy Tuberville.

"The one thing they were concerned about was infection because of the dirt and grass, but the doctors did a good job," Tuberville said. "There was no swelling today whatsoever. They said he probably could practice (Monday), but we'll hold him out, just let him jog around, watch a little bit, and he'll go on Tuesday."

Tuberville said part of a facemask cut into Burns while he was being tackled.

With Burns expected back for Tuesday's practice, Franklin is hoping one of his two quarterbacks will begin separating himself from the other so he can have a more consistent starter.

"Somewhere along the way that needs to happen, and it needs to happen pretty quick," Franklin said.

Good to hear he's abandoning the switching up QB's in the middle of a series.

That's what you call tweaking, which is good to see between weeks one and two.

Damnit Franklin.  If the two can't separate themselves in practice, then you as a coach need to pick the better of the two in your opinion and name him as the starter.  What the fuck is this guy getting paid for, if he can't choose a starter?  I think it's all about the fact the Todd followed him to AU.  He was going to be his boy down at Troy, so I guess that Franklin feels like he owes him something.  Fuck that.  Burns should be the starter.  Let him go through his growing pains this year, and then come next year, look the fuck out.  And by no means am I saying that we would be throwing this season away with Burns as our starter.

I like the avatar.  Representative of your career choice?  Did you finally move up from flagman?  Bravo.

Maybe next year they will teach you how to drive the grader!  Then you'll be rolling in the dough.  It must be raining in Alabama today since you've got the day off from the paving company.

Guys, turns out that I know Will.  He was a laborer for one of the construction companies I used to work for.  Turns out that he lost his tongue in a tragic smelting accident.  Now he can only communicate through internet message boards.  A tragic story, actually.

But it is good to see he is moving up in the world.

I am not actually a steam roller operator, but do you have a problem with blue collar workers, so what if I was one...whats your point?

You seem quick to get away from the blue collar accusation.  Perhaps you are the one with problems with them?

I have no problem with blue collar workers.  Some of my best friends are blue collar workers.  My father was/is a farmer.

You seem actually halfway intelligent.  Maybe I was wrong about you.  You might actually be worthy of adult conversation.

So, why do you hate construction workers?

I was kind of thinking the same thing.  That's why I didn't apologize.  I've seen too many people throw out the old 'my mom's dead' line, so excuse me if I seem a little jaded.

That's not a paver.  That is a steel wheeled roller, prossibly vibratory in nature.  A paver is the machine that you see with a big bin in which the asphalt is dumped and then is laid at a uniform rate to create what is normally called "paving" or "asphalt paving" or "blacktop" or a myriad of other names.

The equipment that is represented here is the device that is then driven over the asphalt in order to one, compact it and two, smooth and seal it.

Yes, I am a geek when it comes to things like this.  I develop a facial tic when people refer to "concrete" as "cement".  Nothing personal.  Many people call things like this by incorrect names.  I just consider it part of my service to help educate.

It'd be like someone calling a piece of steel an "I" beam, when it reality, it is a "W" (for wide flange) shape.

Since, this thread has been completely hijacked. I'm forwarding you an email in which the Chief of the Corp of Engineers refers to concrete as cement while commenting on the work done on the levees in New Orleans.
