Had great hope for this series the way it was promoted. Turned out to be another History channel WTF. More BS than a Texas cow pasture. Not a giant student of Texas history but jeez.

It's not Vikings or Turn, but it's watchable. Santa Ana comes across very effeminate in Texas Rising, and that Creole gal and the bearded man that escaped the Alamo are perplexing to me.

Although disappointed in the series overall, I'll still give it a 6 out of 10.

Turn: Washington's Spies (airs Monday nights on AMC) kicks ass! If you're not watching it, you need to.

Will give it watch, (had not heard of it).

If (Texas rising) had cut out all the bullshit off story lines, they could of wrapped this show up in about 2 hours.

If you have Netflix, go back and watch Turn from the beginning. It's a good time investment for a rainy weekend.

It's in season 2 now.

Had great hope for this series the way it was promoted. Turned out to be another History channel WTF. More BS than a Texas cow pasture. Not a giant student of Texas history but jeez.

If you know even rudimentary Texas history, this show is an INSULT.  The list of blatant historical inaccuracies is ridiculous. Let's start with the fact that there are NO deserts or plateaus in east Texas. It's all piney woods and greatly resembles northeast Alabama. Yet Sam Houston's camp is in some barren sandy area. Such bullshit. The weaponry and uniforms, which are easy to authenticate to the period, especially in a state where everyone knows the history and the fight for independence is well documented in books and historical sites, are horrifically wrong. At a minimum, they could have gotten that right.

Based on the scathing review in Texas Monthly and the scoffing of my Texas friends, I am passing completely.

The lady knows her weather zones....east Texas IS in fact in a subtropic zone with much vegetation in general. If Sam Houston lived in El Paso his whole life, it would make more sense.

1,800 Mexicans eventually overran the garrison.  Santa Ana would have attacked with more men, but they only had 3 cars at the time.

I've yet to see a Texian in this series with horns on his head, although those 2 young guys that were killed at Goliad were likely among the that non-bovine category.
