Was looking for an old file and ran across something that seemed relevant today.
Was on the field for the 2006 Auburn-LSU game. At the time (and until I was on the field for Georgia in 2013) it was probably the loudest I've ever heard. Auburn won 7-3 against Jamarcus Russell. I think both teams were in the top ten. LSU had the ball last, starting from their own 20 with like just a minute left. We knocked their guy out of bounds on what I think I remember was the very last play of the game inside the AU 10. Seems like there was a pass interference that wasn't called that they whined about for five or six years, too.
Remains one of the hardest hitting games I've ever seen (pro included). The AU defense knocked the dog shit out of them. They knocked the dog shit out of AU. We put together an 80 yard drive in the third for the only score. Until that last minute thing I don't think LSU had but one series that went more than five or six plays. Defense on both sides was getting the fuck after it. It was so brutally physical it made me hurt.
When the game was over it was like all the air got sucked out of the stadium at once. I thought my heart was going to explode. And then the roar started. Fans, players, coaches... it was indescribable.
Relevance? I was scrolling through the pictures and noticed players tackling an Auburn coach in the celebration that followed. The coach they were mobbing? Will Muschamp.
We ever hit people like that again while we have the offensive firepower we have now? Fuck a mighty, son.
That was also the game where I saw Scott Van Pelt wearing an Auburn hat.
