Lessons from 2014
« on: December 08, 2014, 10:54:50 AM »
Things I learned from the 2014 football season:

1) The old adage that 'defense wins championships' doesn't hold water any longer.  But at AU proved, you do have to play a little of it.  Just a little.

2) Blake Sims proved just how inconsequential AJ McCarron truly was.  Sims is a terrible quarterback.  He's awful. But against Alabama's pussy schedule and with teams stubbornly playing like they were scared of Amari Cooper, his backyard ball skills set Bama records.

3) The playoff system is even more corrupt than the polls were, than the BCS was.  A secret vote?  What is this, Russia?  It's absolute bullshit that Ohio State is in the final four.  It's absurd that Alabama is a "clear number one."   If TCU or Baylor had made the cut, I would put my money on them winning it all.  But we can't fucking have that.  The cachet of the OSU name was too attractive to the fools who made the picks. Don't think for one second that if Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC, Nebraska or any of the "traditional" programs were within striking distance that the committee wouldn't have elevated them above a more deserving team.  The selection committee is an absolute sham.  It should be disbanded immediately and its members beheaded in the street.

4) I'm a little like Townhall. The constant Alabama bullshit, from the blatant cheating that's ignored by the NCAA to the deification of Saban to the glorification of their excesses sickens me.  It's made me care less about college football than I ever have in the past. I derived very little joy from something that used to be important to me. Instead I got mostly a dull sense of the inevitable watching the Turds plow back to the playoffs while AU stumbled along the way.  We are a better program than they are, particularly on offense.  Better QB, better RBs, better OL, better receivers.  Better actual coach.  Even at this, their absolute apex, we should be in a position to keep them in their place.  But that doesn't always happen.  They should have lost five games this year.  Disgusts me that they didn't.

5) Beyond Alabama, I don't think I've ever been as tired of football as I am now.  I like Les Miles and enjoy the rivalry with LSU. But I hate that fat bastard at Arkansas. I don't like anything about the A&M cult.  I think Dan Mullen is a shit stain on the face of humanity and his wife is a hillbilly whore.  I've had enough of Freeze and his tearful emoting. I'm tired of Richt and the nonsensical perception that he's some sort of altruistic saint. Georgia is the second thuggiest team in the SEC and he gets a pass for it year after year. I'm even tired of Spurrier's grouchy old man act.  I hate Lou Holtz, I'm sick of Reese Davis, I want to punch Herbstriet's OSU humping ass, I think Chris Fowler is a bitch, Desmond is barely literate.  I get aggravated every week watching those fucksticks bang the drum for whatever bullshit they decide to promote -- and their stupid opinions resonating. Gary and Verne taking turns licking Bama's ass made me want to vomit.  So I quit watching.  Other than a few AU games I haven't watched much football at all.  I didn't even watch all of Auburn's games. Fewer than half probably. Only watched on start to finish. Never thought that would happen.

6) Jameis Winston is the face of everything wrong with college football in my opinion.  Rape? Steal? Commit acts of vulgarity and mayhem? So what.  Jimbo Fisher will still suck your dick on live TV.  Without football, Winston would struggle to hold a job bagging groceries at Publix.  But he's glorified.  Florida State doesn't have a single ounce of dignity.  He should have been removed from that team in the middle of last season, but the school deflected and covered for him.  He's got the IQ of an incest-bred rabbit. And he's still in school?  Pathetic.  He's hardly the only one, he's just the most visible.  Winston is an abominable human being and all that is ignored.  It disgusts me.

Correct on every point.

And I think much of it goes back to CFB being a business now more than a sport.

Courage is only fear holding on a minute longer.--George S. Patton

There are gonna be days when you lay your guts on the line and you come away empty handed, there ain't a damn thing you can do about it but go back out there and lay em on the line again...and again, and again! -- Coach Pat Dye

You can keep a wooden stake in your trunk
On the off-chance that the fairy tales ain't bunk
And Imma keep a bottle of that funk
To get motel parking lot, balcony crunk.
