Thoughts - Week Alabama Party

Thoughts - Week Alabama Party
« on: October 20, 2014, 09:08:23 AM »
With Auburn not playing and the weather being nice here in Alabama, I didn't get to watch much football until later in the day.  Here's a brief list of what I did see:

Alabama

- Yeah, I'm going to need you to hold up a second.  The pollsters are morons and trend-followers, so don't get too excited about that #4 ranking.  I saw a Texas A&M team that may not have been able to beat 2012 Auburn.  Your other big victory was against a Florida team that was manhandled by a Missouri team that was blown out by Georgia.

- Though that West Virginia win looks a whole lot better.

Texas A&M

- Worst performance I've seen since 2012 Auburn.  That team gave up after Alabama's first touchdown.

- Kevin Sumlin's coaching philosophy is not working nor is it going to work in the future.  Tony Dungy he is not, and the rumors of him enjoying the night life in the offseason are affecting his team.  They were undisciplined, weak, and relying on emotions.  Neither the offensive or defensive lines had any semblance of toughness.  I'm not really sure how they beat South Carolina.  Maybe South Carolina just sucks that bad.

Florida

- So that sealed Muschamp's departure.  No way they beat Georgia or Florida State.  This could turn into 2012 Auburn as well.  Zero offense and a defense that has to be tired of busting their ass only to lose big.

- Who goes to Florida?  I can't see them going after another coordinator.

Florida State

- Most despicable program of the last twenty years.  Maybe ever.  To hear Jimbo take it upon himself to shower his team's character with praise was disgusting.  To go all proud-dad on Jameis about how he's such an upstanding young man was deplorable.  Talk about selling your soul to the devil.

- And while that pick call at the end of the game was warranted, I still say it could have gone either way.  The defender put his hands on the receiver first and pulled his jersey down.  Unfortunately, the receiver was making no effort to run a route.

- You made me root for Notre Dame.  Damn you, Florida State.

Final Thoughts

- I still really like our chances.  Ole Miss looks like a great football team right now, but I just can't help but think they still have a little Ole Miss left in them.  Bo Wallace is due for a 3 interception game.  Hugh Freeze is due for a few bad calls.  That defense can't shut every team down.

- Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm calling the upset.  LSU's at home. Their run game is clicking.  Their young athletes are starting to bust free.

- Les Miles is very much like Tuberville.  It's going to be extremely rare for him to waste a season.  Much like Auburn 2007, I could see LSU pulling out 8 or 9 wins, which would require a victory over Ole Miss or Alabama.

- Though I did have some high hopes for Kentucky.  I thought Kentucky would give LSU a game, maybe even get the upset leading to a big matchup with Miss State.

- Anyone else realize that Missouri only has 1 SEC loss with their toughest remaining games being @Tennessee and Arkansas?  They have to go to Texas A&M, but who fucking cares about that.  They play Kentucky too.  Georgia has to play Auburn.  I would not be surprised to see Missouri slip into the SEC title game again.

Do you even have to ask about the front runner for the Fla job?

And it will be hard for Mullen to turn that down.

Harbaugh/Miles to Meat Chicken. The Harbaugh unhappiness is starting to show now in SF.

Mullenz to Fla.

I think it makes it even MORE likely. Like a player having a career year in a contract year. His stock would be sky high and UF has more cash in their petty cash bag than MSU has in all of Starkville. And although UF looks like shit now, their ceiling is so much higher than MSU. Mullen knows that too because he was part of it once.

On the ND/FSU ending....  Bullshit call at end of the game. As someone once said, you could find a penalty on EVERY play if you looked hard enough. With 15 seconds left in a top 5 matchup was not the time to look for one. The refs decided the outcome directly and I hate that. The defender engaged. They were locked up. Let em play!

You can tack on the recruiting base in Florida alone. Also, its almost like the whole SEC East has been waiting on this move for the last several years. Mullen could possibly be playing for the SEC East title within one year. This could go on and on before even mentioning any negative aspects of being in Starkville.

I think ya'll can just jump off Mullen's dick.

He's having a good year, but that year is hardly over.  He's proven over the past six or seven years that he's not that spectacular a coach.  I wouldn't want him.  If he goes to Florida he's not going to magically resurrect that program.   If he stays at MSU, the Bulldogs will wallow back to the back of the pack where they belong rather quickly.

He's having one of those years like Fat Mangino once had, like Greg Schiano once had.  He's had a lot of luck along the way so far.  A&M obviously isn't shit.  LSU wasn't shit when they played.  AU played like a drunken two-year old (worst effort of Malzahn's Auburn career) and it took some really sketchy officiating and Malzahn's once a year "out think myself" game to put us away.  Bama will hurt them.  I could see them losing to Arkansas and Ole Miss.

Speaking of those fucks?  If I see one more assclown trot out some wrinkled non-fitting MSU shirt or hat they've had in a closet since 1981 I'm going to punch that assclown in the throat.  Other than Alabama and Ole Miss, there's little I hate more than bandwagon dick riders.  The guy at the gear store in Pensacola said he was sold out of MSU stuff and has people asking for it all the time.  Before a couple of weeks ago he couldn't remember the last time anybody had bought anything with MSU on it.  Fuck every one of those people.  They can all go to hell.

Here is the thing, it would not take much of anything for Mullen to roll into Florida and make some noise his very first year. I mean, the east division sucks. Hell Kentucky has a chance to slop into Atlanta. A one year resurrection will also get the masses off Foleys ass too. This could be Floridas cheap knock off purchase of an Auburn/Malzahn brand.

I agree with all of this, but I still think Florida is dumb/desperate enough to "buy high".

My bold prediction:  Someone will make Ed Orgeron their head coach next year.  Maybe not an SEC school.  But someone will Yaw Yaw Foobaw.  The Michigan job will be open.  The FL job will be open.  Not a lot of hot, experienced coordinators out there.  Lashlee will be a candidate some year soon but not quite yet.

I think he'll have to prove his independence from Gus first. Some high profile big-money "name" school will hire him as an OC, and he'll take it if only to prove that independence. Maybe as early as this offseason if we do well enough down the stretch.

I was thinking a Samford or Jacksonville State type HC gig.

Completely disagree. That WR intentionally blocking the DB there was as bad as a DB tackling a WR while the ball was in the air. There was no intent whatsoever for either WR to be running a pass route. That is illegal and directly caused 88 to be wide ass open. It doesn't get more blatantly obvious than that.

Watch 20...he didn't even celebrate after the TD catch. He knew he had fucked up.

IUf he just makes an attempt to try and turn around, the call is not made...but he flat out blocked him.

Which was more my point.

I don't think hes a BAD coach though. But good enough to win at UF. Not dominate, but win.

Whether we like him or not, he is going to be a hot name for big vacancies. With his history at Fla, its a natural fit.

If you say so hoss. Its hard to say its the WR's intent to block him when he was engaged first (ie - well I wasn't looking for a fight with you but since you threw a punch...). The refs declared "intent" on that one. Dangerous thing to do.

Maybe Mr. DB should have been on Robinson instead of locking up with 20. FWIW - Ive read the penalty was on 7, not 20. Which makes even less sense.

Arkansas State, I could definitely see.

That was another one that ran through my head. Ark ST seems to be a breeding ground for a HC position at a major program. He would be back in his old stomping grounds too. Although it would seem if he stayed in Alabama it would benefit him in recruiting and such.

Yep. I'm still a little sour with Mullen because of the whole Cam Newton deal but the fact is he would do much better at Florida, imo, just with the talent pool alone. Also, I'd be willing to bet that most Gator fans will welcome his version of offense with open arms.
