News coming out that Phillip Lutzenkirchen died in a car accident last night.

Philip Lutzenkirchen, a member of the 2010 Auburn national championship team and one of the most popular players in recent Tigers history, died in an automobile accident early Sunday morning, AUC has learned.

He was 23.

At this time, no other details are known.

Lutzenkirchen caught 59 passes for 628 yards and 14 touchdowns at Auburn.

Before that, he was a standout at Lassiter High, just north of Atlanta.

Lutzenkirchenâ€™s Auburn career ended after sustaining a hip injury against Ole Miss in 2012. The following year, he signed a free agent contract with the Rams, but was released four months later due to the same injury.

This spring, Lutzenkirchen worked as a volunteer assistant at St. James in Montgomery. There, he was position coach of Jalen Harris, a tight end who committed to Auburn last Tuesday.

One of the true Auburn greats part of many notable seasons in Auburn's history. Embodied the creed. Even had orange hair. This is really fucking awful.

Been crying on and off all morning. He was my favorite all time player, yes, including Cam, and the one I most wanted to meet someday. People admire the studs who get all the flash, but Lutzie was adored by so many for a reason. Lutz was real, he was the blue collar, hardworking, never give up kind of guy that every team needs. He and Kodi Burns will always be Auburn greats for who they were as much as what they did.

He is also the kind of young man you hope your own son grows up to be.

I can't add any more adjectives to what every one has said. I was at work and took a break and saw this news dropped to my knees and wept. I haven't had a drink in 6 months. I'm on my 2nd beer and 3 shot of crown. This hurts that bad.
