With T.J. Yeldon, Derrick Henry and Kenyan Drake, Alabama returns a trio of electric running backs in 2014 and new offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin is understandably excited to get them back on the field this fall.

Kiffin, the former USC and Tennessee head coach who was hired by Nick Saban in January, spoke at an event in Mobile, Ala. on Thursday night where he detailed the prospects for the Crimson Tide offense in the upcoming season. After saying that the team kept many elements from the 2013 offense while also changing other dynamics during spring practice, Kiffin offered a thought about his group of running backs.

“As you guys know extremely well, I think the offense is led by the tailbacks. There probably aren’t three more talented tailbacks in the NFL on a roster than we’re fortunate to be able to work with them at Alabama,” Kiffin said, per AL.com.

Really, Lane?

He could have said that Alabama has the best running back group in the NCAA and no one would have batted an eye, but to compare his group to an NFL depth chart -- comprised of the best players from colleges around the country -- is just silly.

All three backs are undoubtedly NFL prospects, but that is at least another year down the line.

Yeldon, a junior, ran for 1,235 yards and 14 touchdowns on 6.0 yards per carry last season. Drake, another junior, ran for 694 yards on just 92 carries while also scoring eight touchdowns. The 6-foot-3, 245-pound Henry made his presence known in the Sugar Bowl with 100 yards on eight carries and a 61-yard touchdown reception.

Kiffin anticipates significant roles for Yeldon and Drake while also getting plenty of touches for Henry.

“Finishing his true freshman year at 245 pounds, running 4.4, that was really easy to come in and see that it’d be good to give him the ball,” Kiffin said.

Would love to see it.  My prediction is this will happen only if Savior Coker looks anything like he did in that video.

We pushed Ole Miss around without resistance for most of the game. LSU might be a test but MSU is all-around better. What a schedule!

Florida catches Alabama's offense sleepwalking against three pathetic opening opponents.  And Tennessee's the big one.  I don't know why, but I think Butch Jones is going to do some big things at Tennessee.  It's all cyclical.  Maybe Tennessee's due.

Auburn and LSU can match talent with Alabama, especially up front.
State is tough and can move the rock. They lack a signature back to compliment Prescott.

Ole Miss is SOFT and Mr. Innovative lets inconsistent Wallace throw three straight identical incompletes to the same receiver when the chips are down.

Florida has overall talent but they have a statue at QB and need to find some playmakers. Tennessee shows signs of returning but are still learning how to win as evidenced in the USA game.

The Turds have two-deep skill-position talent, better than LSU's now. They don't have an established game manager yet their schedule allows them to groom one as if it were planned that way.
  I see much the same scenario lining up for the West as with last season. We have some tests and they don't even get to chase Manziel.

Not sure where the thoughts of Bama losing to UF or UT are coming from.  Ain't gonna' happen.  Florida obviously has a lot more talent than they showed last year and I do think the new OC will make a big difference.  But you'd better be talking about an Auburnesque turnaround.  They lost their last 7 games last season.  That's horrible! 

Tennessee had one quality win last year, against USCe.  The other wins were against Austin Peay, Western Kentucky, South Alabama (By the hair of their chinny chin chin) and Kentucky.  After the win over the Cocks, it went:

45-10 L  Bama

31-3 L   Mizzou

55-23 L  Auburn

14-10 L  Vandy

Throw in an earlier loss to Oregon (They're just so fast) by 460 points and what you have is a shitty program.  Even if Coker sucks as bad as I think he will, Alabama will still have 10X the talent the Fighting Cheetos will.
