I'm a heights and weights kinda guy. I like to see how guys improve in the weight room and in overall conditioning. A-L to the dot kum gave me my fix.
The offseason is a time for players to reshape their bodies and prepare for spring practices.
The goals are simple, but it's sometimes difficult to hit those targets: those who are undersized put on weight, and those needing to reshape their bodies lose weight.
It can be more complicated than that, of course. Sometimes players have to lose weight (fat) so they can gain muscle weight. Even a five-pound difference in weight between the fall and spring doesn't do some of the work these players put in during the offseason justice. They could have lost 20 pounds only to put on 15 in muscle.
The biggest changes this spring? Look no further than offensive lineman Deon Mix, who lost 12 pounds and weighs 298, and offensive lineman Shane Callahan, who gained an incredible 29 pounds to bulk up to 304.
Former running back Johnathan Ford, who has moved to safety, has gained 13 pounds and is close to cracking 200.
Mix's weight loss is big because he arrived on campus last summer weighing close to 350 pounds. The blue-chip prospect may finally be ready to compete for playing time this season as a redshirt freshman.
