I never saw where it was confirmed that the reason was race. Some girls stated that it was, but no proof was ever given (as far as I read).

If the proof was given and the sororities we punished, then this might be an issue. But even if this was passed, would it still stop a certain group from rejecting a pledge for whatever reason?

Would this force an organization to take a person they were not comfortable with, regardless of color?

Life sucks.  Sometimes you get what you want, sometimes you don't.  Not sure why 2 black chicks would want to force themselves into a white sorority that does not want them anyway?  That in and of itself screams activism, yet you seem to think they have no greater agenda.

I say good for Alabama greeks for standing on the principle that they can pick and choose anyone they want to include into their private, dues paying organization.

In 2001, two AU frats were shut down (Don't recall if it was temporary or banned for good) when pictures surfaced of a party where some were wearing KKK outfits and one had a black face with a noose around his neck.  Obviously, this was pretty extreme but the fact is that they were just partying and not actively discriminating against anyone.  Just a dumbass thing to do.  But in this case, two girls alleged real discrimination.  As some have asked, was this a fact?  Was it proven?  Or was it a case of "we didn't get in so obviously it's because we're black"?

I would venture a guess that if that really was the case, suits would have been filed and the sororities would have been suspended.  Anyone know?

IIRC, there were interviews conducted in which members said on the record that they were told by greek leadership to not allow the girls in because they were black. Also, I believe that one of the girl's grandfather was a judge and UA alum. I'm sure Chad knows all the skinny. It was a big story but it fizzled.

2) I think Greek organizations fail to qualify as truly "private" for their utilization of state property and/or their university charters.
