Quote
Bentley to join Auburn staff

One of the most successful head coaches in South Carolina high school football history will join Gus Malzahn’s staff at Auburn.

Bobby Bentley of Duncan (S.C.) James F. Byrnes will be named to the Tigers’ coaching staff this afternoon. Bentley confirmed the news to 247Sports earlier Monday. There is a team meeting at Byrnes scheduled for 3:10 p.m. eastern

Bentley will assist on the offensive side of the ball. Exact details of his duties are not known.

The relationship between Bentley and Malzahn goes back years. In fact, when Malzahn was named the head football coach at Auburn, Bentley was offered the quarterbacks job on the plains, but elected to remain in South Carolina.

Bentley compiled a 119-54 record in two different stints as the head coach of the Rebels (1995-2006 and 2013) and won four consecutive state titles from 2002-05. He is one of only three head coaches to ever win four straight state championships. He was named the 2005 National High School Coach of the Year by Nike.

Known as an offensive innovator and outstanding teacher and developer of quarterbacks, he’s coached three signal callers to pass for more than 10,000 career yards. Sons Chas Dodd (Rutgers) and Shuler Bentley (Old Dominion) both were Division I recruits and son Jake Bentley projects to be one of the top quarterback and overall prospects in the Class of 2017. The 6-foot-4 prospect already holds an Auburn offer.

Bentley also coached former South Carolina and current San Francisco 49ers running back Marcus Lattimore and former Florida State and current NFL defensive lineman Everett Dawkins during his time at Byrnes.

Bentley was the head coach at FCS Presbyterian College, his alma mater, from 2007-08. He compiled a 10-13 mark as the Blue Hose were making the transition from Division II. His teams at PC set numerous offensive records- including a school record 795 yards against Pikeville (Ky.).

AuburnUndercover.com will have more details on the hiring of Bentley as they are known.

He'll be an offensive analyst working with the quarterbacks.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

I can see Coach Lashlee getting the reins of a offense not under Coach Malzahn's wing either as a OC or HC.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

We got the coach we wanted and possibly WR Akia Booker. The quarterbacking son could be a plus but the best part is Bentley's knowledge of that recruiting area.

I will take this opportunity to once again boast that I single-handedly cheated T-Will through Great Books II.

Both of these hires are pretty outstanding and have me jacked. Especially considering the low risk factor in the titles they are given, while also giving these high potential up-and-comers a chance to learn on the job, so to speak, at Auburn.

Question: Does anyone know if there was previously an offensive and defensive analyst on the staff? I don't know the rules with how many coaches you're allowed to have, but I assume it's a fixed number. Did we have to drop anyone to fill these roles?

I think we are doing what satan does at bammer.  Hire as many as you want, just give them titles without the word coach in it.
