Can Anyone with Coaching Experience Explain This?

Just read from Bryan Matthews that Holland is slated to start again this Saturday.

Why?  What possible reason could there be to start and play Holland over Frost at this point?  Frost may not be an AA, but statistically, Frost has been more productive.  Watching Holland play, it's blatantly evident that he is a detriment as soon as the ball is snapped.

I've heard that he's the best at calling the defense.  I've heard that for three years.  Is it possible that everyone else on the defense is mentally retarded and cannot call the defense?  Can they not call the defense from the sideline?

How about going to a more basic defense that doesn't require many calls or adjustments?

I just can't fathom how he is playing at all let alone starting.  I never see him rallying the guys.  Never see him giving a big pep talk or a rah rah pregame speech.

We lose Saturday if Holland gets the majority of the snaps.  LSU will pound the ball, and there's nothing Jake can do about it.

Jake led the team in tackles Saturday.  He's a machine.

Kris Frost came in and made things jump jump by the end of the 3rd quarter. He basically played the rest of the game.  MSU scored once the entire second half. Why play Frost and sit Jake....and then start Jake the very next game?

I have T-Ball and Upwards Basketball coaching experience.  I know things.

The next football game I coach will be my first, but even I can see that backpeddaling does not cut the mustard for a MLB.  Corners...sure.  Linebackers...not so much.  If you watched the game you could see that Frost was hitting the line shortly after the ball was snapped.  When Holland was in, he was tripping over the safeties a few seconds after the ball was snapped.

Hence the start in the LSU game.

We need to pack it in tight in the paint and work the boards hard. If they score, we press them...sixty minutes of hell I say,

So basically, Ellis is starting 10 and a half men on defense Saturday night. Jake reminds me of Billy Murray in Caddy Shack hunting the gofer.

Or dORFMAN...A.K.A. fLOUNDER

Only two reasons I can circumsize. 1. Ellis feels that he needs Jake on the field as the general. Afterall, a guy that can line everyone else up in the right D is pretty important if he's the only one that you can depend on to get it right. Yes, even if he can't tackle Lou Holtz. Can't say I agree that it's better than having Frost on the field but that's what I bet.  OR 2. Ellis has a Sandusky type thing going on with him. Flip a coin.

I had a coach who was superstitious, he wouldn't change the starting lineup until we lost.  I didn't complain, I was the crappy player who got to stick in the Grove Hill Jr High Basketball starting lineup over the more talented kid who was injured at the beginning of the year.  It was kind of annoying getting subbed out in the first 30 seconds of the game though.

And no, I did not make any of that up.
