The following is the depth chart released after the spring and where they project the incoming freshmen to compete for playing time. Something I was talking about the other day was how obvious it is that virtually every single piece written concerning the QB situation is done in the spirit of "Which one of the two new guys will win the job?". I get the feeling that every Auburn writer/fan/Corch is hoping that either of them will quickly show they're a much better option than Wallace or Keyleel. stolen with the copier from al.kum and pasted for your pleasure.
Back at the end of spring practice, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn released the Tigers' preliminary two-deep depth chart, a clear goal for the coaching staff during those 15 spring practices.
Auburn's coaching staff will likely work from that framework when fall camp opens on Friday, although there are now 19 newcomers in the mix for starting spots, and according to Malzahn, all of those newcomers will have a chance to make an impact immediately.
"We’re going into this thing, everybody that just showed up, they’re going to have an opportunity to help us," Malzahn said at SEC Media Days. "That’s just where we’re at with the team, and we’re going to go into this thing and try to give them as many opportunities early in fall camp so that we can evaluate them."
Making an impression early will be key for the newcomers, because Auburn has to start putting personnel groups together to prepare for the season-opener against Washington State. But the key, as Malzahn has said on several occasions, is making sure that any player who can contribute has a chance.
"We’ve worked very hard on identifying our top 11 guys," Malzahn said in response to a question about the defense, "and we’re going to put them on the field." With that in mind, here's a look at Auburn's post-spring depth chart and the newcomers who arrived in the summer and have a chance to compete there.
