Actor James Gandolfini, who rose to fame as crime boss Tony Soprano on the "The Sopranos," has died of a possible heart attack in Italy, an HBO representative confirmed to Fox News.

There were few immediate details surrounding his death at 51, although he was believed to be on vacation in Rome.

Gandolfini, a New Jersey native, appeared in films and on the stage before his breakthrough part in 1999 as Mafia boss Tony Soprano in the HBO series, which brought him three Emmys during its six-year run.

Srsly! Why? He's a fucking actor, while tragic yes, dude weighed like 400 pounds. It wasn't really that surprising to me.

Surprising, no. Just in shock from not expecting it. 51 is young, even for a fat guy to drop dead of a heart attack (although there are 15 other things you can drop dead of in the same manner). I'm curious to see what an autopsy finds. Who knew Billy Mays snorted blow daily?

People were sad Andy Griffith died. He created an iconic character. So did gandolfini.

He was 6-1 and about 280. Big yeah. Lots of people -- many here from what I've seen -- are big guys.

I heard that the reason he didn't get immediate medical help was that instead of just keeling over he just snap cut to black and all the music cut off. Everyone thought that there was just a malfunction with the lights and jukebox in the bar and wasn't real sure what happened. Afterwords they just all got real pissed.
